WAKEFIELD—For the first time in five or six years, the Tidewater Academy boys’ baseball team won its season opener with a 6-2 victory over Alliance Christian Monday.
“So it was a good start to the season,” Tidewater Coach Paul Rogers said about the non-league game. “The kids were happy, and everything is upbeat right now. We’re a work in progress.”
Senior Jimmy Rogers was named the winning pitcher for the Warriors; he pitched four innings and senior James Price pitched three innings.
Price went 2-for-2 at the plate and had 3 RBIs. Senior Martin Hellyer went 2-for-3 and scored 2 runs.
For Alliance Christian, Buchanan Hunter went 4-for-4 and had 2 RBIs.
Southampton Academy will host Tidewater at 4:30 p.m. today, March 16, in Courtland.
