Baseball Hawks drop first game at Burleson, RW goes 3-2 at Jesuit

ROCKWALL — Rockwall-Heath’s baseball Hawks won their first four games at the Burleson Classic last weekend to improve to 8-0 for the 2011 season.

  But, the Hawks then posted a 4-4 tie against Crowley to kick off Saturday’s two games and dropped the final tournament matchup versus Westherford 6-3 to end their 9-game undefeated streak.

  RHHS opened the Classic with a 9-5 victory over North Crowley. Jake Baxter hit two doubles, Jovan Hernandez pounded a home run and Timbo Duncan blasted a homer to lead the Hawks at the plate. Jake Thompson picked up the win on the mound for a 2-0 season record.

  Caleb Copley picked up his second win of the season with a 13-1 win over Mansfield Timberview. Hernandez hit two homers, Austin Stewart pounded a triple and a double and Bret Boswell, Cade Flory and Thompson added doubles.

  Heath followed with a 9-8 victory over Red Oak, led by Duncan’s triple and Thompson’s double at the plate. Baxter picked up the win with an 8-hitter, his second win of the season.

  Hernandez then earned the 11-7 win over Burleson for a 2-0 season record. Duncan and Boswell posted home runs, Boswell and Baxter triples and Duncan, Jake Bledsoe and Hernandez doubles.

  In Saturday’s 4-4 tie with Crowley, Nick Petersen led the way for Heath with a double and in the 6-3 loss to Weatherford Hernandez ripped two doubles for the Hawks. Stewart booked the loss on the mound.

The Rockwall Yellowjackets racked up three wins and two losses at the prestigious Jesuit Classic last weekend.

Jacket ace Thomas Anderson hurled a 2-hitter in RHS’s 9-0 opening win over Mesquite Poteet. Spencer Edwards, Blake Turner and Chris Colacecchi blasted home runs and Edwards and Logan Terwilliger hit doubles as the Jackets scattered 12 hits in the win. Edwards was 3-for-4 with five RBIs in the game.

Rockwall then lost a tough 7-6 decision to Texarkana Texas High after scoring five runs to take a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh inning on one RBI double by Mason Holley, one RBI double by Edwards and three RBIs off a Steve Bean home run.

  But, Texas High answered in the bottom of the seventh with a bases-loaded homer to take the victory.

  Rockwall then defeated Lehman 6-3 on Friday with Brewer Money picking up the win. Edwards went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a triple, Corey Mills was 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, Colacecchi went 2-for-3 and Jacob Stewart was 1-for-1 to lead the RHS offense.

  Josh Deloach earned the 4-3 win over Bishop Lynch on the mound with a save from Clayton Garcia. Turner hit three doubles and Deloach hit one to lead the way at the plate.

  The Jackets closed out the tournament with a tough 8-7 loss to host Jesuit despite outhitting the Rangers 9-7. Mills led RHS hitters with two doubles and Garcia booked the loss.
