Comic Relief 2011: Wear your Red Nose with pride

The world is in a sad and sorry state right now. Laughter will be hard come by for many people. When it is available we need to grab hold hard and enjoy.

The UK's annual Comic Relief Day is today, 18th March 2011. This annual fund raiser was spawned from the ashes of the original Band Aid in 1980 something. Comic Relief was the brainchild of UK comedy writer Richard CurtisRichard Curtis and Alexander Mendis, in 1985. The idea was to raise money for the starving in Ethiopia.

There are many fund raising events which lead up to Red Nose Day in the UK but today is the main event, so to speak/ Today up and down the country people will be doing silly things in order to raise money for charity.

One of the easiest ways is to buy a Red Nose each year. Each year they change slightly so do not get caught out as a cheapskate wearing last year.s red honker. Of course it dpeneds upon where you work as to whether or not a Red Nose will be appropriate. If you work in a hospital or funeral director's it could cause offence. You should be alright in a mortuary as the customers should not notice the difference.

Schools across the country usually take part also. Some allow the kids to wear casual or silly dress for this special day, at a price. The cost will form a donation to the cause. Many schools this year seem to be organising bring and bake cake stalls.

The day's events are rounded off with a type of telethon on the BBC. Newscasters, actors, celebrities, ordinary folk, musicians and the like will perform in an attempt to raise money. Over the years there have been some unusual performances, but primarily they have all been funny.

One of the great things about Comic Relief is that all of your donation goes to the charity. Any additional costs are funded by sponsorship or bank interest.

To date Comic Relief has raised a whopping £650 million.

UK people are more generous than many give them credit for. These days the money raised is used for various projects in the Uk and the rest of the world. Many of the projects help children and the poorest people alive today.

So don't be shy. Wear your Red Nose with pride. Remember to donate as right now the world needs every bit of charity available. Give generously but make sure that you have some fun doing so.
