Reality TV recently met its match, as members and guests of the Newcomers’ Club of Conway attended the club’s annual style show held this year at the Hilton Garden Inn in Conway.
Top billing went to the age-old dilemmas of “What Not to Wear” and “How Not to Look Old”. Attendees were treated like a “studio audience” as the room was decorated to look like a TV show set, complete with lights and camera.
Lunch included grilled chicken penne pasta with garden marinara, garlic bread, cheesecake and a beverage.
Jessica Henry-Spayde served as executive producer, producer and director of the style show, which featured three contestants or models — Anita Bowe, Betty Boudreaux and Melanie Lenser.
Henry-Spayde emceed the show as well, pointing out fashion do’s and don’ts she gleaned from two books, “Dress Your Best: The Complete Guide to Finding the Style That’s Right for Your Body,” by Clinton Kelly and Stacy London, hosts of TLC’s “What Not to Wear,” and “How Not to Look Old: Fast and Effortless Ways to Look Ten Years Younger, Ten Pounds Lighter, Ten Times Better,” by Charla Krupp, magazine journalist.
Both books as well as a variety of makeup recommended in the “How Not to Look Old” book were given as door prizes. DeLaine Gartner won the “Dress Your Best” book and Bev Freiley won the makeup and “How Not to Look Old” book.
Stage crew and extras were Donna Bivins, Mary Pat Cullum, Frances Goatcher, Peggy Gregory, Renee Little, Judi Moore, Judy Myers, Sue Sewell, Barbara Spencer, Vicki Stephenson, Mary Sue Stearns, Kay Taylor, Mandy Thomas, Janet Tobias, Virgie Tsuda, Sada Vandiver and Julie West.
JC Penney at the Conway Towne Center and Dillard’s of Little Rock/North Little Rock provided the fashions. Premiere Designs consultant Jennifer Cunningham provided the jewelry.
Membership in the Newcomers’ Club is open to anyone who has lived in Conway three years or less and has a Conway address.
