According to the calendar, St. Patrick’s Day lasts 24 hours and will already be at least partly over by the time you read this.

But according to Gulf Coast revelers, the exact boundaries are a little blurrier. The party began late last week, hits a peak today and will still be in full roar Saturday evening.

A guide to Gulf Coast highlights follows:

O’Daly’s Irish Pub at 564 Dauphin St. in Mobile will offer “Green Kegs ‘n’ Eggs” starting at 6 a.m. A crew from The Shed Barbecue Joint will serve free green eggs and sausage until 10 a.m. The free ride ends then, but food will be offered all day, as will various drink specials. Entertainment plans include the band Cornbred at 9 p.m.

The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick will parade through downtown starting at about 11:15 a.m., following a 10 a.m. Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. This year’s grand marshal is Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran, a longtime member of the organization. According to an officer of the organization, the parade route will take the group west on Conti street to Hamilton then south to Government Street; east along Government to Conception Street, north to Dauphin Street; east on Dauphin to Royal Street, then north to St. Francis Street; west on St. Francis to Conception, then south to Dauphin; and west along Dauphin back to the Cathedral, where it will disband.

Paddy O’Toole’s, at 3692 Airport Blvd. will open at about 11 a.m. The action spreads to an outside tent starting sometime in the early afternoon, with food including corned beef and cabbage. Inside music includes Chico & Chris at 1 p.m., Back 2 Soul at 5 p.m. and Cyde Projekt at 10 p.m. Random Conspiracy will play outside at 6 p.m. Cover is $8.

The Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a second annual “St. Paddy’s Day Pub Crawl” in downtown Ocean Springs. Visit www.oceanspringschamber.com or call 226-875-4474 for details.

At The World Famous The Celtic, a pub at 4901 Chicot St. in Pascagoula, entertainment will be provided by Alligator Zebra, featuring David Lynn, formerly of the Friday Night Gigolos.

At McSharry’s Irish Pub in Fairhope, traditional music will start at 3 p.m., and Na Fianna should be in full swing by 5 p.m. Plans call for a more contemporary Irish group to follow at 8. The restaurant will serve its usual menu from 11-2; after 2, it’s corned beef, cabbage and potatoes, and either a “Guinness Irish Chili” or an Irish stew. The event benefits the Haven animal shelter and a local volunteer fire department. Owner Ronan McSharry cautioned that access and parking might be somewhat restricted by preparations for the Fairhope Arts & Crafts Festival, which starts Friday, but that side streets and parking lots, including the downtown parking deck, would be open.

Callaghan’s Irish Social Club, at 916 Charleston St. in Mobile’s Oakleigh historic district, will feature traditional Irish music “all day long,” with Peek playing at 6 p.m.

Beef O’Brady’s at 6450 U.S. 90 in Spanish Fort will extend festivities from Thursday through Sunday. Thursday night features live entertainment, corned beef, cabbage and new potatoes, green beer and even green Sprite for the wee ones. Family fun includes treats for the kids, and a jumping gym on Saturday and Sunday.

Fly Creek Café, at 831 N. Section St. in Fairhope, will serve green beer and sausage dogs, with Motown music from The Isings, 6-9 p.m.

Callaghan’s holds its traditional party, which spills over into adjacent streets. Traditional Irish music starts at noon. Daddy Longlegs will perform at 3, followed by Morris Minor at 5 p.m. and Will Kimbrough, with band, at 8 p.m. There is no cover charge.

O’Daly’s will present its “O’Hooligan’s Ball” in the pub and the lot out back. Plans call for a mix of traditional Irish entertainers and local bands, plus food prepared by The Shed. The pub opens at 10 a.m., and the tent in back opens at 2 p.m.
