Prince William County Public Schools recently lost two members of the system, an elementary school principal and a former school board member.
Henderson Elementary School principal Lisa Reinshuttle succumbed on March 9 after a long battle with an unspecified illness, according to a release from the school system.
Ilona Salmon , who served on the school board representing the Occoquan District from 1981 to 1992, also died, passing away on March 1.
Reinshuttle , who was 57, served as the principal at Henderson from July 2007 and joined PWCPS in 1995 as the principal of Antietam Elementary.
“She was a special lady,” said Todd Erickson , associate superintendent for Central Elementary Schools . Erickson supervised Reinshuttle for three years. “Her impact on Henderson Elementary School will be remembered. She was a strong instructional leader who was very student-focused. The staff, students, and parents loved her and will miss her very much.”
“She was a totally supportive principal,” said Fred Milbert , who worked under Reinshuttle in the Office of Curriculum Services .
“She was a successful principal because she absolutely loved her kids and she supported her teachers so well,” he added. “What she did for those who worked under her most people will never know. She supported everyone so that the best was given to kids.”
Reinshuttle is survived by her husband, Ken , and two adult children, Austin and Lauren .
Salmon served as the school board’s vice chairman from 1985 to 1986 and was chairman from 1986 to 1987. She and her family moved to Prince William County in 1968, they living in Lake Ridge during her tenure on the school board .
She is survived by her husband, John McClure Salmon III, daughter Lauren Harvard Salmon Varah, son John “J.” McClure Salmon IV and her grandchildren.
