RICHMOND — Richmond Police stopped Michael S. Fox, 31 of Irvine, at 6:09 p.m. Sunday on Irvine Road after receiving complaints of a vehicle driving recklessly.
After stopping the vehicle, officers said Fox had slurred speech and failed a field sobriety test. He then was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Because there was no odor or other evidence of alcohol on Fox or in his vehicle, police had reason to suspect Fox was under the influence of drugs and a search of his person and vehicle were justified, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock.
Because Fox’s vehicle was to be impounded, police also were entitled to take an inventory of items it contained.
The searches allegedly revealed that Fox was in possession of an oxycodone pill and three morphine pills, the chief said.
Fox also was subjected to a blood test to determine if he was under the influence of drugs, Brock said.
In addition to the DUI charge, Fox was charged with two counts of first-degree possession of a controlled substance and lodged in the Madison County Detention Center, from which he was released Monday on a $5,000 cash bond.
At 12:47 a.m. Saturday, Richmond Police were dispatched to the Woods Trail apartment of Patrick N. Noell, 21, to investigate neighbors’ complaints about a loud party.
Brock said officers were clearing the party when they observed numerous signs that belonged to the city of Richmond, EKU and Madison Central High School. The items consisted of street signs, stop signs and logos.
Noell was charged with receiving stolen property under $500 and lodged in the detention center from which he was released the same day on a $500 unsecured, third-party bond.
An inmate of the detention center, Darrell Walker, 39, Riva Ridge Drive, was charged Feb. 3 with theft by unlawful taking under $500 in connection with a theft that occurred the previous day.
A patron of Nikki’s Tavern reported that he met a stranger in the bar and offered to buy the man a drink. When the victim removed his wallet from his pocket, the stranger grabbed it and fled. The wallet contained $360 in cash. A follow-up investigation identified Walker as the suspect Brock said.
Walker remained in the detention center Monday under a 10-percent $5,000 cash bond on the theft charge and a $2,500 cash bond for a previous failure-to-appear charge.
