The men’s basketball team (15-9, 6-4) plays at Houston at 7 p.m. today in Conference USA play. The Mustangs fell, 70-68, at home against the Cougars (12-11, 4-6) on Jan. 15. SMU is coming off a 67-57 loss at UTEP, which snapped the Mustangs’ five-game winning streak. SMU is tied for fifth in the tightly bunched C-USA race, 11/2 games back from leader UTEP.

BOISE, Idaho — The state Board of Education will decide Thursday whether to give Boise State football coach Chris Petersen a $50,000 bonus as thanks for team’s success last year and a $35,000 annual bump in salary.

If approved, the bonus would increase Petersen’s overall bonus for the 2010 season to $125,000.

Petersen made $1.49 million in 2010. The raise would bump his total compensation to $1.52 million in 2011 and escalate to $1.87 million in 2015.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The NCAA and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference officials are reviewing game film and witness statements about a Valentine’s Day fight that broke out during a women’s basketball game between Bethune-Cookman and Maryland-Eastern Shore.

Both schools said Tuesday in written statements that they will wait to hear from the league and NCAA before making any further comments regarding the altercation.

The incident occurred in the second half, though it is unclear what sparked the altercation. Referees suspended action with 16:22 to play because of unsportsmanlike behavior on both sides. Bethune-Cookman led, 32-21, when play was stopped.

LOS ANGELES — UCLA officials hope to determine where the men’s basketball team will play its home games next season within 2-3 weeks.

Pauley Pavilion will be closed April 1 as it undergoes $136 million in renovations.

Options include the Los Angeles Sports Arena; Staples Center; Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.; and Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif.
