Area elementary basketball results

In area elementary basketball play, Crichfield Green beat Kingsford Heights White 36-16.

Crichfield Green’s Peyton Marker netted a game-high 16 points, while Brayden Blanca had 12 points and three steals. Nick Gubert grabbed three rebounds, and Ben Martin scored six points. 

Kingsford Heights White’s Terry White tallied four points, and Lennie Sawyer had two points with three steals. Austin Beauchamp recorded a team-high six points, while Nick Montgomery added two points with two rebounds. Sebastian Cummings had two points.

Crichfield Gold topped Kingsford Heights Red 31-18.

Crichfield Gold’s Bennett Pinson earned 12 points, and Jalen Russell had 11 points. Mason Shreves posted four points and seven rebounds, while Jackson Cizewski had four boards.

Kingsford Heights Red’s Brock Lipscomb tallied four points and three steals, and Robert Baxley scored six points. Sam Brooks had three rebounds, while Thomas Noble netted a team-high eight points.

Pudge Bumgardner scored a hole-in-one at Beechwood Golf Course in La Porte.

The ace was made on the 120-yard No. 18 hole.

Bumgardner used a 7 iron for the shot. Witnesses were Mike Hannon, Tom Justice and Dick Tillinghast. This was Bumgardner’s first hole-in-one.

La Porte County YMCA free NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Dribble, Dish & Swish

The La Porte County Family YMCA will host a free NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Dribble, Dish & Swish, presented by Pepperidge Farms Flavor Blasted Goldfish. The competition will be Saturday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. at the Y.

Local youngsters ages 7-12 have the opportunity to participate in the Dribble, Dish & Swish (based upon participant’s age as of Feb. 25, 2012). This program provides boys and girls, competing separately, a free opportunity to showcase their fitness through a dribbling, passing and shooting skills competition in the sport of basketball.

Participants register the day of the event, with their parent or guardian completing a registration/waiver form. Participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate. Champions from local competitions will have the chance to advance to one of nine regional competitions occurring across the country in hopes of advancing to the National Finals Feb. 24-Feb. 26 in Orlando, Fla.

La Porte Wrestling Club will have sign-ups beginning today thru Monday, Nov. 7.

This club is designed for elementary-aged students (age 5-11) interested in developing or improving their wrestling skills. The club will be practicing Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7 p.m. at La Porte High School. The first practice will be Tuesday, Nov. 8. They will be practicing through the month of November and traveling to other club locations in December for outside competition.

The cost for this 6-week session is $70 and includes both an ISWA Competitor’s Card (required by the state) and a T-shirt. Payment can be made at the first practice. Also, bring a copy of the wrestler’s birth certificate for verification of age.

Sign-ups for this year’s club will be done through an email to the La Porte Wrestling Club email account lpwrestling@hotmail.com with the wrestler’s name, age and years of experience. Other information will be retrieved at the first meeting.

La Porte County YMCA Little Dribblers preschool basketball

The La Porte County Family YMCA has started registration for its Little Dribblers preschool basketball program.

Parents may register their child during open hours at the Y front desk. This program, for ages 3-5, introduces preschoolers to the fundamental skills associated with basketball. Basic physical and social skills are taught in a class setting, with some game play each week. Parents are encouraged to participate with their child. The 45-minute classes are held Saturday mornings at the Y. The session begins Saturday and runs though Dec. 17. The cost is $36 for Y members or $54 for non-members.
