After splitting games over the weekend, with a win over Randolph and a loss to Mansfield, the Scituate girls basketball team added another victory on Tuesday night with a 60-18 win at Pembroke on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, the boys downed Pembroke 58-32 on Tuesday night, avenging an early season loss to the Titans.
Scituate’s Megan Otto had 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the Sailors, who improved to 13-2 (10-1 Patriot League).
Kelly Martin added 14 points and 8 assists for Scituate.
Charlotte Carr led Scituate with seven rebounds.
Scituate Coach Brian Buckley liked what he saw.
"We came out strong right from the tap and that is a good sign,” he said of the Pembroke victory. “The team shook off the tough loss to Mansfield and went back to work."
After the victory Scituate remained in a tie with Quincy in the race for the Fisher Division Crown of the Patriot League with 5 league games remaining. Scituate is 13-2 overall.
In the much awaited match-up between the Lady Sailors (12-2) and the undefeated (15-0) Division I Mansfield Green Hornets, it was the poise of Mansfield that was the difference as Scituate lost only it's second game of the season 53-40 at Emmanuel College.
Scituate led early on six first quarter points by Martin but poor shooting and missed opportunities allowed Mansfield to take a slim 14-12 lead after one frame and to go to the locker room leading at halftime 30-20.
As the poor shooting continued for the young Lady Sailors, Mansfield extended the lead to 15.
A late fourth quarter rally cut the Hornet lead to eight with two minutes to go but that was as close as it got the rest of the way.
According to Scituate Head Coach Brian Buckley it was a disappointing loss.
"We were definitely disappointed in our play but when you consider that we shot 5 for 19 from the free throw line and 29 percent from the floor, it's amazing we were even in the game at the end."
Buckley commented on the play of Junior center Shannon Brady who finished with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
"Shannon really competed tonight and she was great at both ends of the floor,” he said. “She held their center, who is Mansfield's leading scorer, to only two points and she did not stop battling until the very end of the game. It's a shame that we did not win this one, because Shannon deserved a victory."
The Sailors did get one victory over the weekend as all 11 players scored in Scituate's 67-24 win at Randolph.
Junior guard Otto had 14 points, 6 assists and 4 steals and Martin had 12 points, 5 assists and 4 steals to lead the Lady Sailor attack.
Junior guard Kate Lemire had 9 points, junior forward Sophie Shilue added 8 points, Brady notched 8 points and junior guard Christine Collins had 4 points 5 rebounds to lend a hand in Scituate's victory on the road.
Scituate (8-1 league) remains tied in the loss column in the Patriot League with Fisher Division foe Quincy.
Quincy plays at Scituate on Tuesday Feb.15 at 6:30 pm. In a game that could be for the League title.
In boys action, Scituate won two of their last three games, beating Whitman-Hanson and Pembroke, sandwiched by a well-played loss to Mansfield.
