The Metrodome’s roof cannot be repaired -- it must be replaced, at a cost of $18 million, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Wednesday.
According to the newspaper, engineers will deliver that message to the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission at a meeting Thursday. The Star Tribune reported the commission, which operates the stadium, has insurance to cover the cost of replacing the roof.
The Metrodome in Minneapolis needs a new roof because the old one cannot be repaired, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
The Metrodome’s roof collapsed in mid-December under the weight of a blizzard. The Vikings were forced to move their final two home games – the first to Detroit, for a game against the New York Giants, and the second to the University of Minnesota’s new outdoor venue, TCF Bank Stadium, for a Vikings-Bears Monday night game.
The commission needs to approve work on the roof to ensure that the stadium will be ready for mid-August, when the Vikings begin their exhibition schedule.
