If all fathers were like Mark Brunell, there might not be tabloid headlines about Mark Sanchez dating a 17-year-old girl. But they aren't and there are.
Travel back in time to "Hard Knocks," the chronicle of Jets wackiness (before feet and Sal Alosi and Brett Favre sexts entered the picture). Brunell, the backup quarterback to the 23-year-old Sanchez, laid down the law (in a NSFW clip ) in camp.
"I've got a daughter that's only five years younger than him, so that's really weird," Brunell said , his arms folded and legs crossed in that "don't mess with me" way of dads and probation officers. (Not that 17 is illegal.) "No, that won't happen. He's not meeting my daughter. She already thinks he's cute. She saw a picture of him, but that's not happening at all. I like the kid, but I don't like him that much."

Big deal. The girl's right the age of consent is 17 in NY and 16 in Connecticut. I question Sanchez's judgment in this day and age, but he didn't do anything wrong.
I can just see Mr. Brunnell, who is not expected to be with the Jets next year (and surely will not be there now) studying his daughter's college applications and he looks at the Jets schedule and starts to understand why his daughter is applying to FDU-Madison and slams his fist down, breaking his hand and ending his career.
Nemo, no offense, but it always creeps me out when dudes cite the age of consent in a given state.
But to your second point, I think Brunell doesn't have enough oomph left in that arm to do any damage to his fist. More likely he'd gently lob his fist toward the sideline, so it can softly float down with no chance of hitting anything.

Seriously, Nate? The guy's been gone for five years and folks are still making fun of him?
He didn't look bad in the final game of the season. Sure, it was Buffalo, but once he shook the rust off he made a sweet touch pass to Santonio Holmes in the corner of the end zone and threw a nice TD bomb to Braylon Edwards.

Also, I might reasonably counter that the guy's been gone for three (not five) years and folks are still rushing to defend him from tepid, lame shots like the one I delivered above. Which I guess speaks volumes... if I could only hear them.
