Road wins in the Big Ten conference have been tough to come by for the Purdue women’s basketball team over the past couple of seasons. On Thursday night in Minneapolis, the Boilers earned one of those road victories with a 70-60 win over the Gophers.
Purdue is now 8-6 in conference play and guaranteed of no worse than a .500 finish in regular season conference action.
Free throw shooting was vital in the Boilermakers taking down the Gophers.
Purdue shot 86.4-percent from the charity stripe as they hit on 19-of-22 attempts, including hitting on all six of their attempts in the game’s final minute.
The game was close throughout with nine lead changes and seven ties. Purdue took a 31-30 lead into the halftime locker room.
Purdue turned the ball over eight times in the first half, but settled down to commit just five miscues in the second half.
The Boilermakers blocked a season-high 10 shots, including a career-high four by Alex Guyton. Purdue also held Minnesota to 28.6 percent from the floor and did not allow the Gophers to hit a three-pointer, the first time the Boilermakers have shut out a team from long range this season.
Drey Mingo had 10 points and 12 rebounds, her third double-double of the season.
Brittany Rayburn led Purdue with 27 points.
Purdue plays its final home game of the season on Sunday afternoon when they host Ohio State.
