Ferrell E. Taylor

Ferrell E. Taylor, 90, of Brashear, Missouri, passed away Tuesday (January 4, 2011) at his home under Hospice care.

The son of W.D. “Dick’’ and Lottie Jewel (Moots) Taylor, he was born June 10, 1920 in the Hazel Green area, Adair County, Brashear, Missouri. On March 16, 1980 in Brashear, Ferrell was united in marriage to Georgena Howell.

He was preceded in death by his parents one brother Frank.

Ferrell received his education at the Hazel Green rural school. He worked with his Dad at a sawmill as well as threshing. In 1940, he went to Kansas to help harvest fields, and again in 1941. At that time, Ferrell went to the oil fields. On February 16, 1942 he joined the United States Army with the 31st Dixie Division and landed on New Guinea in 1943, where he fought clear to the Philippines. He was honorably discharged on December 23, 1945. In 1946, Ferrell went to Griffin, Georgia to see his war buddy, Floyd Wilkerson, who was wounded in New Guinea. He ended up staying in Griffin, going to work for Spalding Concrete Company until 1949, when he returned to Missouri, going into the construction business until 1959. Ferrell then bought John Deere Implement Business in Greentop, Missouri until he sold out in 1969 and started a used machinery lot in Kirksville. In 1975, Ferrell moved to Sikeston, Missouri and was Vice President of Nation Wide Tractor Sales. He then started North Land Machinery lot until selling the business and moving back to Kirksville, retiring in 1981. At that time, Ferrell helped his son build Taylor Carpet Company and Taylor Flowers. The Taylor Carpet building later became Northeast Missouri Country Music Show. He and his wife helped run the music show until it sold. Ferrell then retired to a farm east of Kirksville.

Ferrell loved to travel, hunt and fish. He had many friends and well be sadly missed.

He was a life member of N.R.A., member of V.F.W., was on the Board of Commerce Bank until it sold and was President of the Emery Keller Trust Estate.

Public visitation will be held Thursday (January 6, 2011) with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday (January 7, 2011) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Reverend Beryl Cragg officiating. Music selections, “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” and “Peace In The Valley” will be provided by Melodie Sevits, who will be accompanied by Wanda Donaldson, organist. Interment with military honors will follow the service at the Brashear Cemetery in Brashear.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Wilkerson, Adam Wilkerson, Frank Collop, David Erwin, Larry Higgins and Mike Allen. Honorary bearers will be Gene Taylor, Seth Shumaker, Mike Erwin, Dennis Thomas, David Thomas and Dr. Ferrell Moots.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Ferrell Taylor may be made to the Brashear Cemetery. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
