One question that came up again Thursday was on the Ducks’ focus and preparation – how it could be better than it was a year ago when the team was in Pasadena for the Rose Bowl.
Oregon lost that one 26-17 to Ohio State. Asked what the Ducks could have done differently, coach Chip Kelly wasted no time coming up with an answer.
“We could have won the game,’’ Kelly said. “That would have made stuff a lot happier for us.
“It wasn’t just us. Ohio State was a good football team. We made some mistakes in that game that we don’t normally make. We didn’t throw the ball very well in that game (Jeremiah Masoli was 9 of 20 passing.) That’s not a typical performance at what we do.’’
Kelly said he does see a change in attitude this year, though.
“They were excited about winning the Pac-10 but that wasn’t the end-all for them,’’ he said. “They were excited about winning the Civil War, but that wasn’t the end-all for them. They play like they’ve got another game to play. It’s a good mindset to have in this situation.’’
