Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn says he's concentrating on the BCS national championship game and not jobs linked to his name.

Malzahn turned down the Vanderbilt head coach position two weeks ago and has been linked to Maryland this week. Former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach interviewed at Maryland on Thursday. The Washington Post reported the Leach interview went well.

Malzahn spoke to the media for the first time since he was linked to Maryland.

"My only focus is on helping us win the national championship. I will have nothing else on my mind,'' Malzahn said.

Malzahn said "it's got to be the right time, the right situation" for him to leave Auburn. He wouldn't say if he had talked to Maryland.

Malzahn agreed to a multi-year contract that will pay $1.3 million annual salary when Vanderbilt made a run at him.

"The focus has been a lot better. Each practice you can tell they've been more urgent."
