Badger trio to take part in Senior Bowl

Carimi, Moffitt and Kendricks to play for North Squad on Jan. 29

TE Lance Kendricks was a consensus first-team All-American in 2010.

MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin’s three first-team All-Americans, LT Gabe Carimi , LG John Moffitt and TE Lance Kendricks , will team up one last time at the 2011 Under Armour Senior Bowl on Jan. 29 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. The game will kickoff at 3 p.m. CT and be televised by the NFL Network. The NFL Network will also televise all the practices from Mobile and have exclusive analysis of the entire week.

This is the third straight season at least one Badger has been selected to the Senior Bowl, following Kraig Urbik in 2009 and Garrett Graham and O’Brien Schofield last year. It is just the second time in school history that at least three UW players have been selected. RB Terrell Fletcher, DB Kenny Gales, OL Joe Rudolph and OL Mike Verstegen were on the 1995 Senior Bowl roster while OL Dan Buenning, OL Jonathan Clinkscale and DL Anttaj Hawthorne suited up in 2005. Including this year’s trio, Wisconsin has now had 39 players selected to take part in the Senior Bowl, which is now in its 62nd year.

“These are three outstanding football players with very bright futures ahead of them,” Senior Bowl President and CEO Steve Hale said. “Gabe is one of the best offensive linemen in the country and, along with Lance and John, played a huge role in the Badgers’ success this season.”

Carimi claimed the coveted Outland Trophy this season in helping the Badgers to an 11-2 record and Rose Bowl appearance. He was a unanimous first team All-American and first team All-Big Ten selection in 2010. The Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year helped pave the way for the nation’s No. 5 scoring offense (41.5 ppg.) and made 49 career starts from his left tackle position over the last four years.

“There are question marks around my game and I’m confident in my abilities to play well,” Carimi told the (Mobile, Ala.) Press-Register last week. “I have nothing to hide and only something to gain by going to the Senior Bowl. I’m a player that practices well as well as plays well.”

Kendricks was named a first-team All-American by the AFCA and Sporting News this season and was a second-team pick by the Associated Press. The consensus first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2010 reeled in 43 passes for 663 yards and five touchdowns this year. He was third in the nation in receiving yards by a tight end and finished his career ranked 18th in school history with 1,160 receiving yards.

Moffitt was named a first-team All-American by the Associated Press this season, starting all 13 games at left guard. The Guilford, Conn., native was also a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2010 and, along with Carimi and Kendricks, helped pave the way for two 1,000-yard rushers ( John Clay and James White ). He played in 45 games over the course of his career, earning the start in 42 of those contests.

Quarterback Scott Tolzien will participate in thethis Saturday, Jan. 22, in Orlando, Fla. The game will kickoff at 3 p.m. CT and also be televised by the NFL Network. This is the eighth-straight year Wisconsin has had a representative at the East-West Shrine Game.
