Maryland heads to the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament this week as the 7th seed and opens play in the first round on Thursday against 10th-seeded NC State. The Terrapins will be trying to snap a three-game losing streak.

The Terrapins won their earlier meeting with the Wolfpack this season, 87-80 on Feb. 20 at Comcast Center. Maryland and NC State last met in the tournament two years ago in the 7-vs-10 game in 2009, with the Terps winning 74-69 en route to the semifinals at the Georgia Dome.

Maryland got good news this week on the awards front. Sophomore centerJordan Williamswas named a third team All-American by both Yahoo! Sports and FoxSports.com. Williams was also voted onto the All-ACC first team by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. Freshman guardTerrell Stoglinearned a spot on the ACC's All-Freshman Team.

Williams led the Terrapins with 17 points in their last outing, a loss against Virginia. Williams still leads the ACC in rebounding at 11.6 rpg and could become the first Terrapin to lead the league on the boards since Joe Smith nabbed 10.7 rebounds per game in 1993-94. He has 24 games with double figures in rebounds, closing on the school record 26 games by Len Elmore in 1973-74.

Maryland is attempting to add to a string of 14 consecutive seasons with at least 19 wins. The last time the Terrapins failed to reach that plateau was a 17-13 record in 1995-96. The Terrapins are on an 18-season string with at least seven conference victories in a season.

NC State enters Thursday's matchup with a 15-15 record, including a 5-11 conference mark that gave them the No. 10 seed in the ACC Tournament... The Wolfpack has lost four of five dating back to its 87-80 loss to Maryland on Feb. 20.

Forwards Tracy Smith, C.J. Leslie and Scott Wood have done the bulk of the scoring for NC State this season and also did so in the lone meeting with the Terps... Smith had a team-high 19 points, Leslie had 15 points and eight rebounds and Wood, a 6-foot-6 sophomore, had 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from 3-poitn range.

Leslie was named to the ACC All-Freshman team on Monday after finishing second on the team in scoring (11.2 ppg), first in rebounding (7.2 rpg) and first in blocks (39)... Smith leads the team in scoring (14.1 ppg) and has reached double digits in 16 of the last 17 games.

For much of the latter part of the season, NC State has started a lineup featuring three freshmen... Joining Leslie are guards Lorenzo Brown and Ryan Harrow, who are both scoring a notch above nine ppg... the duo is also 1-2 on the team in assists with 3.8 apg and 3.2 apg, respectively.

Head coachGary Williamscontinues to roll up Hall of Fame-style numbers in terms of his 33-year career and the 22 years he's been directing basketball fortunes at his alma mater...

Against NJIT on 12/22, Williams won his 450th game at Maryland, and is now at 460-251 (.647)... The game at Virginia on 1/27 was Williams' 700th at Maryland...

He is the 5th-winningest active head coach in NCAA Division I men's basketball with an overall record of 667-378 (.638)... He ranks 3rd all-time (2nd active) among coaches at ACC schools with 460 victories at Maryland, and also ranks 2nd among active league coaches with 192 regular-season ACC victories... Williams is the Terps' all-time winningest coach...

Maryland's 70-65 victory over Boston College (2/6/2008) gave Williams his 600th career victory... Only 12 other active head coaches in Division I have 600 career wins...

Williams is only the 24th head coach in history to reach 650 career Division I victories and the 35th at all divisions, including both active and inactive coaches... He currently ranks 22nd and 31st, respectively, on those two all-time victory lists... Williams' win over Florida State, his 667th, moved him past Dennis Bridges (Illinois Wesleyan, 1966-2001) on the all-division list.

Against Wake Forest, Williams matched the 664 victories of legendary UCLA coach John Wooden (Indiana State `47-48, UCLA `49-75), passing the mark with the win over Longwood.
