Men's Tennis Powers Past Purdue - Bears win fourth straight match with a 7-0 sweep of the Boilermakers. In its last match before Spring Break, the 28th-ranked Baylor men's tennis team recorded its second 7-0 victory of the season on Wednesday afternoon against Purdue at the Baylor Tennis Center. "Today, we lost just one set and that is a good move in the right direction," head coach Matt Knoll said. "We couldn't be more optimistic. There is something about Texas Tech that brings out the best in Chassidy Fussell and Ashley Gayle. - Fussell and Gayle, mired in recent scoring slumps, broke out in a big way Wednesday night at the Erwin Center. Fussell scored 23 points and Gayle contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Longhorns to an 83-59 victory over the Lady Raiders in a crucial Big 12 game. Okafor looking forward to move back to defensive end - Alex Okafor has been praised by Texas football coach Mack Brown as a loyal trooper who will do what is asked of him. That loyalty, though, was put to a bit of a test last season, when the Longhorns asked Okafor to leave defensive end — the position he'd played forever — to take on 300-something pounders as a defensive tackle. Okafor did it, reluctantly perhaps, but without complaining. All he would say at the time was he was "kind of surprised" at the move. Now, under new defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, the Longhorns hope to move the Pflugerville High School product back to defensive end. They didn't have to ask him twice. READ MORE
Aggies One Win Away From Third Place Finish In Conference - After a strong defensive effort against Kansas that wasn't quite enough to get the win Wednesday night (at one point in the first half A&M was holding Kansas to 22% shooting from the field), the A&M men's basketball team returns home on Saturday for their home finale and the final game of the 2010-2011 regular season. The Aggies will play Texas Tech at Reed Arena at 12:45 PM in a game that will be shown locally on the Big 12 Network. The Aggies will celebrate Senior Day for B.J. Holmes, Nathan Walkup, Andrew Darko, Derek Lewis, and Marshall Carrell. After the way the Aggies performed in Lawrence, I feel very good about our chances of sending our five seniors out as winners. Texas A&M baseball sweeps Texas-Pan American - The day couldn't have been going any better for Texas A&M head coach Rob Childress. The weather was perfect for an afternoon baseball game, his pitcher had four zeros on the board and his team had just strung together five straight two-out hits for four runs and a 5-0 lead. One call cut all that joy short as Childress was sent to the dressing room at the end of the fifth and had to keep abreast of the remainder of the game, which the Aggies won 7-0, by the Aggies, from under the stands. The victory for A&M (8-1) completed a mid-week, two-game sweep of the UT-Pan American Broncs (5-2). READ MORE
Texas Tech Downed by Longhorns - Lady Raiders had four players score in double figures in 83-59 loss at Texas. Texas Tech had four players score in double figures but it wasn't enough as Texas defeated the Lady Raiders, 83-59, Wednesday night at the Frank Erwin Center. Tech (20-9/7-8 Big 12) opened the game with two baskets by Teena Wickett to take an early 4-0 lead, its biggest advantage of the game. Texas (18-11/7-8 Big 12) responded by scoring the next four points to tie the game at the 17:35 mark. The Long horns took the lead, 7-4, on a three-pointer by Kathleen Nash. Cougars hoops fall to Tulane, will finish no higher than 10th - The Houston Cougars were unable to put their recent struggles to a halt, dropping a road contest to Tulane 80-77 on Wednesday at Fogelman Arena in New Orleans. The Cougars led by eight at one point but turnovers hurt them, as they committed 23 on the night. UH (12-16, 4-11 Conference USA) has lost five consecutive games and 10 of its last 11. Senior Emily Carter scored a game-high 24 points Wednesday as TCU rolled Air Force to close its regular-season at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, 88-51. The UT Arlington softball team was determined to sweep the Texas State Bobcats at home and did so Wednesday afternoon with a come from behind 5-4 win at Allan Saxe Field. The win improved the Mavs to 11-7 overall and 3-0 conference action. The three game sweep against the Bobcats was the first in UTA softball history.
