A dodgeball tournament for men and women ages 16 and older begins at 11 a.m. March 26 at the Ketterlinus Gym to benefit cancer research. Friends and families have organized the gathering to honor Chris McDaniel, whom has been diagnosed with brain cancer. This is the second annual event. The benefit is entitled Dodging Cancer. McDaniel, a lifelong resident of St. Augustine, is a 1997 graduate of St. Augustine High School and a Navy veteran. He was diagnosed several years ago.

Monetary donations are encouraged. Half of the net proceeds from the benefit will be given to the Flagler Cancer Institute and half to Cancer Patient Emergency Fund. There will be food, drinks and a baked goods sale as part of the tournament.

Tax-deductible donations should be made payable to Flagler Health Care Foundation Inc. All other checks can be made to Dodging Cancer.

Haven Hospice is hosting "Clearing Out Clutter," a seminar on how to simplify your life, at 5:30 p.m. March 21 at the St. Johns County Public Library, 1960 N. Ponce de Leon Blvd. The presentation will address various approaches to simplifying life and tips for reducing clutter in your home and your life in general.

This seminar is offered as a community service by Haven Hospice, and there is no charge to attend. For information, contact Linda Scaz at 810-2377.

* The Mason Manatee Relay for Life Team will hold its second annual Spring-4-a-Cure 5K Run/Walk beginning at 8:30 a.m. March 26, rain or shine, at the Riverview Club in St. Augustine Shores. Entry fee is $25. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. The race is on a loop course with chip timing. Awards will be presented for top finishers in various age groups. * Relay for Life of World Golf Village and St. Augustine are joining for an Adventure Landing fun raiser from 6 to 9 p.m. March 24 at the State Road 16 facility.

* The Relay for Life event at Pedro Menendez High School begins at noon April 9.

St. Johns River State College is conducting registration at all campuses from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through March 31 for its upcoming Health Careers Core class.

Classes for the Health Careers Core course will be held on the St. Augustine campus from May 9 through June 16. The Health Careers Core course is a prerequisite for the phlebotomy program, which will be offered on the St. Augustine campus in July.

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, must complete an application to SJR State College and pay the application fee prior to registration. Applicants should make sure they complete the residency affidavit and turn in acceptable forms of identification. Use Course Registration number 31180 when registering.

First Coast Technical College announces an upcoming 264-hour Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training course, at FCTC's Public Safety Training Academy/North Campus, 3640 Gaines Road. The class continues March 21 through June 3, meeting from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with basic concepts of emergency medical care instruction. Hospital clinicals and rescue ride time are included in the training. Course completion allows one to become a Florida certified EMT and nationally registered EMT.

The application deadline is Tuesday, and pre-tests are required. Apply early to ensure necessary prerequisites including a high school diploma or GED, minimum age 18 years, and a current CPR card.

* Sunday: 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. -- Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 5950 State Road 16.

* Wednesday: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. -- St. Johns Technical High School, 2980 Collins Ave.

* March 17: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. -- Ponte Vedra High School, 460 Davis Park Road, Ponte Vedra Beach.

Individuals who donate blood between now and the end of May have an opportunity to win a Smart Car.

The Blood Alliance is offering donors a chance to participate in a random drawing for a Smart car through May 30. The drawing to determine the winner will be May 31 using a computerized random selection from everyone who has donated blood at all of the blood drives and donor centers in all regions through May 30.

The Smart Car winner must be at least 18 years old and a licensed driver. The winner will be responsible for all necessary documents, all applicable taxes and cost of tag and title.

St. Johns River State College will accept applications for the Radiologic Technology program through May 15. Classes will begin in August at the St. Augustine campus with selected clinicals in health care facilities within the regional area. Upon successful completion of the degree requirements, the qualified student will be eligible to apply to take the national certification examination for radiology administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. ARRT certification is recognized throughout the country, and successful completion of the ARRT examination allows students to become licensed by the State of Florida to practice radiography in the state.

The Cancer Education and Support Center at Flagler Cancer Institute is offering the following classes:

* March 16: noon to 1 p.m. -- Yoga for Healing, taught by Ginny LaRue Abarbanel.

* March 17: 1 to 2 p.m. -- Why Spiritual Direction? Taught by Flagler Hospital chaplains Ann and Ken Baechel.

* Mayo Clinic is hosting a free interactive health forum "Empower Yourself Against Breast Cancer" 7 to 8:30 p.m. March 23 at the St. Johns Golf & Country Club, 205 St. Johns Golf Drive in St. Augustine. All St. Johns County residents are welcome to attend this free event, although advance registration is requested.

* Overcomers Outreach meets at 6 p.m. Mondays at First United Methodist Church, at the corner of King and Riberia streets. A covered dish dinner is followed by a lesson, movie or guest speaker. The meeting is a support group for any recovery. The group works the 12 steps with bridging the Bible. Everyone is welcome. Call 392-9187.

* In addition to the Overeaters Anonymous meetings at Flagler Hospital at 7 p.m. Wednesdays and 9 a.m. Saturdays, there is a meeting at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Coquina Crossing Clubhouse. Monthly support groups at the Cancer Center include:

* The Caregiver Support group meets at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday and 1:30 p.m. the third Thursday of each month at the Council on Aging Coastal Community Center, 180 Marine St. The sessions are for those who are caring for someone with memory loss and other conditions. Call 209-3700.

At The Players Senior Community Center, 175 Landrum Lane, Ponte Vedra Beach, meetings are at 2:30 p.m. the fourth Thursday of the month. Call 280-3233.

* The St. Augustine Multiple Sclerosis Self Help/Support Group meets at 6 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at Anastasia Branch Library, 124 Sea Grove Main St.
