Cam Newton not a candidate for NCAA Football '12 cover athlete - National College Football | Examiner.com

Cam Newton, the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner, will not be on the cover of the next installment of the NCAA Football franchise from Electronic Arts. EA Sports is opening the voting for fans next week and the four candidates up for nomination will include an Auburn Tiger, but it will not be quarterback Cam Newton. One will be named the cover athlete for NCAA Football '12.

As reported by Examiner earlier today, Alabama's Mark Ingram, Auburn's Nick Fairley, Washington's Jake Locker and Oklahoma DeMarco Murray will be the four options fans will be able to vote for from March 7 through April 4. The voting will be conducted on Facebook. An announcement about the voting is expected to be made on ESPN First Take on Thursday, March 3.

So why no Newton, who was hands down the best player in college football last season? This question has been asked to a representative at Electronic Arts and Examiner is currently awaiting a response.

While we wait for an official response on Newton's omission, speculation will build. Was Newton left out because of the off-field issues, whether it be his history at Florida or the controversy involving his father during recruitment?
