Dougherty Villa Excited donated $1000 to the Oncology Ward at Grafton Base Hospital.
STRIVING to become the Biggest Loser has made a small group of local residents big winners.
Over 12 weeks, 76 people took part in the annual Biggest Loser competition run by the Rotary Club of Grafton Midday. Aimed at promoting the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle, the competition also presented members of the community with the perfect opportunity to shed a few unwanted kilos and have some jolly good fun at the same time.
On November 12 the remaining competitors weighed in and were delighted to hear that they had lost a combined total of 126.7kg.
Biggest Loser competition chairperson Lois Robinson said despite numbers being down this year competitors had shown a huge display of enthusiasm.
"They were ecstatic," she said.
"Everyone had such a good time throughout the competition."
The Biggest Loser was divided into individual male and female and team weight-loss categories.
The winners of the team division were Dougherty Villa Excited from Dougherty Villa Grafton who generously donated their $1000 prizemoney to the Oncology Unit at Grafton Base Hospital.
"Staff at the Oncology Unit were over the moon," Lois said.
"As the team winners of the competition, Dougherty Villa Excited could donate their prize money to their favourite charity and the people at the hospital appreciated it so much."
On behalf of the Rotary Club of Grafton Midday, Lois wished to extend a sincere thanks to competition sponsors Gumtree Retreat who provided prizes.
Next year the Biggest Loser competition will be run in conjunction with the Clarence Valley Council's (CVC) healthy and active program. Lois said Grafton could expect the competition to return in 2012 bigger and better than ever.
