Veraga, discovered by a photographer while walking on a beach in her native Colombia, had her first wide TV exposure co-hosting a travel show from Bogota that was carried on Univision for three years in the late 90s.
After stints in the short-lived U.S. comedies "Hot Properties" and "The Knights of Prosperity," she broke out with her role on "Modern Family," in a role that earned her Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
While she says the new Comcast service will allow Spanish speaking audiences to "watch wherever you are," she says. "For me, it's super convenient. Since I'm never at home. And when I am at home, I don't have time. So I like to watch TV while waiting in airports, or on a plane or while waiting on the set."
Wrapping the second season of "Modern Family," vergara says "I'm so sad about it," she says about wrapping the second season of "Modern Family." "I really enjoy going to the set and seeing everybody."
And while the success of "Modern Family" has been credited with a revival of comedies in general on TV, Vergara says it's really given a boost to her visibility (not that the former model was ever really overlooked).
"I've been in the business for 20 years, I know what it's like to be recognized," she says. "Now kids and grandmothers are stopping to say it's their favorite show."
Vergara is a frequent visitor to Connecticut - her 18-year-old son Manolo is a student at the Gunnery in Washington, Conn. "I love it there, especially coming up in the fall, it's so pretty," using the same emphasis on the effusive words as Gloria would.

Comcast did pick the perfect woman as their spokesperson. Sophia is a beautiful and talented actress! However I do think that in addition to the online content they could have added more channels or some Spanish packages. As a Dish Network employee I know having variety in what you watch is really important, especially in homes that are bilingual like my own. Dish offers 5 different packages so you have more to choose from. Dish also offers a Spanish add on called the Latino Bonus pack that you could add to any of the Americas Top packages so you can get the best of both worlds. I really hope they plan on adding more Spanish channels for their customers in the future.
