Murder suspect accused of shooting Wildwood man in neck appears in court - pressofAtlanticCity.com: Breaking News

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — A suspect in the Feb. 1 shooting of a Wildwood man made his first appearance in court Monday.

Jason M. Thorn, 24, of Holt, Pa., was led into state Superior Court in shackles and an orange Cape May County Jail jumpsuit.

Thorn was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Joshua W. Palumbo, 31, in a rooming house on the 100 block of East Spicer Avenue in Wildwood.

The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said Thorn shot Palumbo once in the neck. Thorn was arrested three days later in Tinicum Township, Pa., by the U.S. Marshal’s Service, Wildwood police and the Philadelphia Homicide Unit.

If convicted, Thorn faces 30 years to life in state prison.

Chief Assistant Prosecutor Rob Johnson did not release any more details Monday about the allegations or the suspect’s relationship with Palumbo.

Thorn consulted with his public defender, Scott Sherwood, but said nothing in court.

Superior Court Judge Kyran Connor read Thorn his Miranda rights and gave him a copy of the criminal charges he faces.

Palumbo was awaiting trial on drug-possession charges in Cape May County for possession of the painkiller Oxycodone. He also faced weapons charges for having a pocketknife and expandable baton in Wildwood on Dec. 15.

Thorn was lodged Monday at the Cape May County Jail in lieu of

$1 million cash bond.
