Three Miami Dolphins were singled out by Pro Football Weekly’s panelist of experts (my peers) for their performance in 2010.
Jake Long receives recognition for playing through pain.
Offensive tackle Jake Long, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, was named the publication’s All-NFL left tackle.
This is what the publication had to say about Long’s performance from last season: We already knew Long was one of the league’s elite tackles. In ‘10, he showed us his toughness, playing with only one healthy shoulder for almost the entire second half of the season. He really had only one bad game — against Bears DE Julius Peppers — during that stretch and was stellar aside from that.
And rookies John Jerry and Koa Misi were selected to the publication’s All-Rookie team. Jerry, the Dolphins third round pick, started 11 games for the Dolphins. While he wasn’t much of a force in the running game the former Ole Miss standout allowed just one sack and 13 quarterback hurries in 2010.
Misi, the Dolphins second-round pick, contributed 41 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and recovered two fumbles, one of which was for a touchdown.
Misi finished 2010 rated the NFL’s seventh most productive 3-4 outside linebacker per snap according to ProFootballFocus.com
The publication also hands out a couple more honors.
Coach of the Year — Patriots head coach Bill Belichick
Offensive Rookie of the Year — Rams QB Sam Bradford
Most Improved Player of the Year — Texans RB Arian Foster
Comeback Player of the Year — Eagles QB Michael Vick
Assistant Coach of the Year — Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg
Golden Toe (Best Placekicker or Punter) — Ravens PK Billy Cundiff
Take a look at the All-NFL team and All-Rookie team and tell me what changes you would have made if given the juice.
