Sports Sound Off: Auburn has more than two players

This is kind of embarrassing to the Southeastern Conference. Tennessee lost to North Carolina. Looks like Georgia is going to lose to the University of Central Florida. What's up with this? It's been said that they have one of the toughest conferences in the country. It doesn't look like it anymore.

That coach for the Tennessee Volunteers team is the worst coach, not just in the SEC, but for all major football teams. The only thing he's got going for him is his name. That's why he got the job I guess.

I am watching the first SEC team playing in a bowl game here and it looks like the refs are all throwing to the SEC, so they'll probably go 10-0 with the help of the officials.

What's wrong with saluting?

If I played football and made a touchdown and threw a little salute up, what is wrong with that? I didn't take my helmet off. I didn't dance. I didn't act a fool. I just did something to show that I thank the soldiers overseas who are taking care of us.

There are some things that should be left alone. I don't mind the pretty girls getting information on the sidelines of the football field, but for actual commentary and commenting, having a woman do it is not appropriate. I turned the Armed Forces Bowl off because of it. I'm not going to listen to a woman talking about how some 320-pound lineman should block.

To the LSU fan who says Auburn's team is just a two-man team: It seems like I remember Auburn rushing for 440 yards against your defense. I don't think Nick Fairley plays offense and I don't think those defensive linemen were playing against Nick Fairley. You might want to ask your defensive line what they think of Auburn's offensive line before you say that Auburn is just a two-man team.

This is in reference to the LSU fan who said that if you take Fairley and Newton away, then that makes Auburn terrible. I think if you take the top offensive and top defensive players from any team that they're going to be terrible.

Well, thank you to the rocket scientist from LSU who called in to say that Auburn's entire team was built around two players, Newton and Fairley. I believe if you look at every college team in the country, you'll see that there are two or three key players that make wins possible for those teams, including LSU. However, LSU's two or three top players weren't good enough to beat Auburn.

Hey, Tommy Hicks, if you think the investigation into Auburn is over, you are clearly wrong. It's just begun. Just wait until April 4 and you'll see what I mean.

All you Auburn fans who are praising Gene Chizik: Wait until next year when he doesn't have Cam Newton. You'll find out what a good coach he is. Without Newton, they'll lose at least five or six games next year.

Why would Fairley and Newton go pro when they're making more money at Auburn right now anyhow?

The same NCAA that suspended the Ohio State players for next year should have suspended your boy, Cam Newton, at Auburn this year. I wonder how much his dad has received and how much they might be paying the referees to work the Oregon game.

Auburn fans are fair-weather fans. All you can see now is Auburn flags and stickers everywhere. Where were you fans when Auburn was just mediocre the last few years?

I would like to nominate Coach Chizik for Sportsman of the Year for spotting Alabama 24 points to make it an interesting game.

I'm talking about Nick Fairley being a good player. I'm not surprised he is so good because his daddy was a good football player. His daddy played for Williamson High School.

Excuse me, someone wants to know where the envy and jealousy are on Auburn's side. They are No. 1 in the country. They have the Heisman Trophy winner and they are playing for the national championship and they should be envious and jealous? Auburn fans don't dwell on the past. They enjoy the present and look forward to the future.

AJ McCarron was red-shirted his first year. This year he played about seven minutes to score two touchdowns. The other time he played was when Alabama was way ahead and was told to let the clock run out. AJ and Julio make a great matchup for touchdowns, so why did Saban only use him in this way? It hasn't been fair for AJ all year. Phillip Sims should have to wait his turn. Saban hasn't seen what AJ can do because he didn't let him play enough this year.

Hey, Alabama fans: I just wanted to make sure that you heard it here first. Go ahead and make your reservations for New Orleans for 2012. It certainly will be great when we get back to the championship game and we can win it in the Superdome. It will be just like old times.

To the caller who said that ABC or ESPN dropped the ball when scheduling the SEC bowl games: These bowl games are already planned a year in advance. When the teams' records come to stand at the end of the regular season, then they're selected. If the person wants to gripe about it, gripe at the NCAA. Don't gripe to ESPN and ABC.

What's a GoDaddy?

I'm pretty good at this daddy business. I know what a sugar daddy is. I know my daddy can whip your daddy, but what in the world is a GoDaddy and who coined such a phrase?

I fully agree with the caller who says this year's bowl game matches are the worst he's ever seen. I'm older than he is and I can agree with him fully. The sorriest bowl game is yet to come -- the GoDaddy Bowl game in Mobile. Can you imagine an unknown team with a 6-6 record playing in a bowl? The GoDaddy Bowl is a bummer.

I've been sitting around here all week, watching these old, sorry football games. And I am really disappointed in these bowl teams. I get better competition with high school teams. And why wasn't South Alabama in a bowl game?

Concerning Roger Goodell's ruling on Brett Favre: Jenn Sterger was attempting to blackmail Brett. Goodell knew that and ruled accordingly. If your feelings are hurt over some texting, you don't wait nearly two years to go to the authorities.

I don't understand why the caller is so critical of Brett Favre. It can't be true that the commissioner of NFL knows what Favre did, because if he did, he would have done something about it. And certainly this caller knows nothing about it.

I see where the NFL fined Brett Favre $50,000. Boy, that's going to hurt his pocketbook. He makes $16 million a year as a Viking. That's not even 0.1 of a percent of what he makes.

I see where Josh Bean has Reese Dismukes of the Spanish Fort Toros for the Super 12 Player of the Year Award. However, something should be said about Ameriol Finley. Without Finley, Spanish Fort wouldn't win 5A. I know he's not Super 12 material, but I think he was the MVP for the Toros.

The South Alabama Jaguars need a change in the basketball coaching staff. You made a big deal that they won four in a row. They were all against cupcakes. On the road, they lost to NAIA teams. This team and this coaching staff need a change. They have to do it to put the people in the stands.
