The following companies had unusual price changes in Mexico trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as 4 p.m. New York time.
The IPC index retreated 0.9 percent to 37,810.16, the biggest drop in a week.
Cemex SAB (CEMEXCPO MM), the largest cement producer in the Americas, fell 1.1 percent to 12.21 pesos. U.S. housing starts fell 4.3 percent in December to a 529,000 annual rate, the lowest level since October 2009.
Compartamos SAB (COMPARC* MM) snapped a four-day slump, gaining 0.4 percent to 21.95 pesos. The company plans to complete the delisting of its old shares in about three months, Chief Financial Officer Patricio Diez told reporters today in Mexico City. Last month, Compartamos gave shareholders stock in its holding company in exchange for the old shares.
Minera Frisco SAB (MFRISCOA MM), the mining company controlled by billionaire Carlos Slim , halted a nine-day rally, tumbling 9.3 percent to 53.24 pesos. The drop is a correction after the rally overvalued the shares, said Gerardo Roman, a trader with Mexico City-based Corp. Actinver SAB.
