Cougs drop third straight

A tired Cougar squad, in their last game of a three-week road trip, barely showed up in a 60-56 loss to a less-than impressive USC team.

That's not to say that USC isn't a good team, but they didn't really look that great and it was quite apparent that the Cougs were not ready to play this game.

Over the past three contests, WSU played well in the first half and poorly in the second, but this time around they looked beaten up from the get-go. The Cougs shot a miserable 30% from the field in the first half, and were down 22-26 at the break. After the half, things looked even worse as they continued to sleep-walk, but then woke up a bit in the final minutes, scoring 11-straight to come within two with a little more than a minute remaining. Still, they couldn't complete the comeback.

DeAngelo Casto had one of his best performances of the season, scoring 18 points and pulling down 8 rebounds, but didn't get much help from the backcourt. Klay Thompson had 17 on another tough shooting night where he hit only 6-18 from the field. Reggie Moore, Marcus Capers and Faisal Aden combined for only 15 points.

The good news is that this long road trip is finally over and the Cougs can go home and recuperate. The Oregon schools enter Friel Court with their combined 13-12 record and should provide some much needed relief.

Of course, I'm not saying it will be easy, but the Cougs should be able to return to form against two far less talented teams. Let's hope the homecoming is the cure.
