Club notes

COLUMBUS - The Eagles Auxiliary 1834 met for two meetings in December. The auxiliary met Dec. 7 with 20 members and one guest in attendance, presided over by Madam President Denise Miller. Judy Greenlee, membership chairman, gave the second-quarter high producer prize to Evelyn Harral. The initiation fee of $10 will be waived until the end of March. Mystery number non-winners were Mary Dufek, Cecelia Szelag, Lucille Bender, Sheryl Klug, Irene Konwinski and Lenni Arndt for $10 each and Virginia Guenther for $50. Next meeting six drawings for $10 and one for $6. The attendance award went to Judy Greenlee and the jackpot to Carol Brown. Lisa Munson turned in $104 for the Diabetes Research Center. The auxiliary would be serving the Holiday Bowl party, Lakeview dinner and a bowling dinner. We would also serve the New Year's Eve breakfast. Following the meeting, a gift exchange was held. Earlier in the evening, a potluck supper was enjoyed.

The Dec. 21 meeting reported 12 in attendance presided over by Denise Miller, madam president. Mystery number non-winners were Lucille Koopman, Karma Ritzdorf, Gisella Gross,  Alice Bialas, Blondell Meyer, and Lana Broderson for $10 each and Fern Martin for $6. Denise Miller gave the steak fry report and reminded the members that the kids could come down and have their picture taken with Santa on the 23rd. Applications for membership were received from Luann Waak, Whitney Wurdinger, Amber Bernt, Martha Zegers, and Angela Fang. The auxiliary voted to send another $700 to the Diabetes Research Center; this totals $2,673.60 so far this fiscal year. Judy Greenlee won the attendance award and the jackpot went to Rita Fuhr. Betty Nicolas received a gift from the auxiliary (Auxiliary Mother birthday). The charter was draped in memory of deceased Sister Shirley Church. The next meeting will be held Jan. 18 with initiation.

COLUMBUS - The CCH Auxiliary held a meeting Jan. 3. President Marilyn Kappenman called the meeting to order with 41 members present. The 2011 auxiliary officers were installed by Louise Nyffeler. The officers for the upcoming year are President Marilyn Kappenman, Vice President Rosie Woodward,  Secretary Ruth Lind, Treasurer Staci Roe and Historian Maxine Bredahl. Carol Keller, executive director of the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation, gave a presentation. The foundation was started in 2002 and currently has a board of directors consisting of 20 community members. The auxiliary is a partner with the foundation to raise money for equipment, scholarships and training. The foundation and auxiliary funded 22 items in 2009-10 and 23 items in 2010-11. Hostesses for the meeting were Bobbi Shotkoski and Joyce Niedbalski. The Gift Shop reported more sales in 2010 compared to 2009. Members were reminded to pay their dues. Holiday raffle sales were the highest in the auxiliary's history. Plans are to hold the next jewelry fair close to Mother's Day. The next bake sale is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 11, at the CCH third floor conference center starting at 7:30 a.m. The public is invited. The auxiliary's Extravaganza is going to be held on Sunday, April 3, at the New World Inn. Tickets will be available in the near future. The next meeting will be on Monday, Feb. 7, and the program will be on the Platte Valley Diversion Program.

COLUMBUS - The Platte Valley Kin Seekers met at their library at 1 p.m. Jan. 5, with Vice President Wilda Buckle presiding. Election of officers is to be held in February. A combined meeting with the Platte County Historical Society is planned for Feb. 7 in the west meeting room of the museum. Gail Blankeneau will present a program on "Tracing Ancestors Through Land Records." Workdays are still being held Fridays, 1-3 p.m. Two external hard drives have been obtained for our group to be used for information storage. Membership renewals are due March 1. It was noted that the Clarkson library has a listing of names of all persons buried in Colfax County cemeteries. It will be checked to see if the Kin Seekers could obtain copies of the listing. After adjournment, members discussed a number of interesting early events in their lives. The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 2.
