is a brand new show that made its season premier Monday, Feb. 7 on FOX. The show takes place in Chicago, IL and follows the story of some cops trying to take down the corruption that has taken over City Hall. Shawn Ryan, the critically acclaimed creator of the FX series The Shield , directs the show.
The pilot episode introduced the audience to a wide range of characters. One of the central protagonists is police Superintendent Teresa Colvin. She is the city's first female superintendent and is trying to clean up the streets of Chicago and her own police department. Colvin has to diplomatically govern the city both on the political stage and on the streets. Colvin is being played by Jennifer Beals, who was most recently seen in The Book of Eli , opposite Denzel Washington.
Jerek Wysocki is a homicide detective with distaste for profanity and goes through partners within a couple days. He is a veteran cop and a living legend among the police force. He is ex-partners with Teresa Colvin and as a result, has some political pull because of the friendship the two still share.Jerek's brother was murdered two decades before the storyline takes place and it shown that Jerek is still trying to avenge his death. Wysocki is played by Jason Clarke, who has been seen in films like Public Enemies , Death Race and most recently, The Human Contract .
The antagonist of the story is a man by the name of Alderman Ronin Gibbons. Gibbons has been ruling over Chicago with a "velvet glove" for over twenty years. It is revealed that he is the most powerful man in Chicago, even more so than the mayor and is also the most corrupt. Colvin and Wysocki are on a mission to uncover the corruption in Gibbon's office. Delroy Lindo, whose repertoire includes roles in Malcolm X , Romeo Must Die and Devil's Advocate , portrays Gibbons.
Caleb Evers is Jerek Wysocki's new partner and is desperately trying to prove himself to the legendary cop. Caleb is eager to please but also proves to have great instincts that may be of value in the future of the series. Evers is portrayed by Matt Lauria who is best known for his role in the series Friday Night Lights where he starred as Luke Cafferty.
Vonda Wysocki is Jerek Wysocki's niece and he has been taking care of her ever since his brother's death. Vonda is a rookie cop and Jerek keeps a close and protective eye on her. That may prove to be a point of tension between the two as the story plays out. Vonda is played by Devin Kelley and this is her first big role on television or in film.
Issac Joiner is Vonda's gung-ho partner. He's cocky and likely to take risks, something that "Uncle Jerek" isn't too happy about. Issac and Vonda seem to have a deeper relationship than just partners but it was only hinted at during the first episode. Joiner is played by Todd Williams who made his film debut opposite Kerry Washington in the movie Lift .
Liam Hennessey is an undercover cop that is working with Teresa Colvin and has been for over a year. Liam has been infiltrating the Irish mob and has been slowly working his way up the ladder. Colvin hopes that, through Liam, she can prove that Gibbons has connections with the Irish mob and is using them for his own benefit.
