His current single “ Party Like We Do ” features a vocal sample from party icon DJ Kool , and is already lighting up clubs throughout the mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions.
Additionally, you can currently find David RUSH featured on international R&B sensation Frankie J ’s new single “ Dreamgirl ,” as well as on the song “ Fell in Love ” from Jersey’s Pure .
As a native of Highland Park, New Jersey, David RUSH began writing music at just eight-years-old. He tagged along with his older cousin, freestyling rhymes and practicing ways to record music with limited resources. Eventually David took up with the boys at school, participating in traditional lunchroom sessions of beating on the tables and enjoying the thrill of the MC battles.
Despite his passion for the music, David made a big move to attend the Art Institute of Atlanta for video production. During his time there, he learned how to finesse Pro-Tools, and began mixing his own music on the side. Known at that time as Young Boss, RUSH began working with Atlanta producer Soundz, and they eventually came up with the sexy dance-floor anthem “ Go Girl. ” It wasn’t long before the song spread throughout the East Coast, eventually landing on the desk of Miami Hip Hop star Pitbull , who quickly signed Young Boss to his Mr. 305 label.
“ Pitbull hit my management up and wanted to make ‘ Go Girl ’ a song on his album,” says David. “It went from being just another song on his record to one of his most downloaded songs from all of his albums. He kept my verse on the second verse, added Trina on the third verse, and to date, when that song plays people know it.”
Everything seemed to be moving along perfectly for the now-worldly Jersey Boy, but in a scary twist of fate, his entire universe changed. On March 16, 2007, during a seemingly normal day, he woke up in the hospital, heavily monitored and attached to machines. The doctors found that David had Focal Glomerulosclerosis (FGS), which is scarring in the kidneys, and gave him only a year to live. Determined to stay put, David has worked tirelessly with his doctors to maintain a good life despite his very serious condition.
In 2008, with the support of his XB Music Group team, David RUSH recorded the bright club track “ Shooting Star ” featuring Kevin Rudolf ( Lil Wayne ’s Cash Money rock artist) and Pitbull . The labels in New York started taking notice, and Universal Republic signed David up to release the single nationally. He immediately put together the original music he’d been working on to create .
“ Shooting Star ” was remixed by high-energy duo LMFAO in 2009, and became an instant hit with fans of all the artists involved. RUSH eventually requested a release from Universal to move forward independently, and began his mixtape series as he worked toward a new goal: finding the open window for a kidney transplant.
Over the course of a year, RUSH dropped nearly 100 pounds, and in November 2010 he was able to go ahead with the life-saving operation. It was his own brother and road manager Dwaine a.k.a. Monsta was able to donate the kidney David needed, making their connection stronger than ever. Sequestered to his home for three months, David set up a studio and began recording dozens of songs. To the delight of his longtime fans, he let loose two installments of his series.
“With , I wanted to welcome the people to me, and create something for people to look forward to welcoming them to my new world, Rushia – my life, between the lines,” David explains.
“Through this series, people will learn everything about me in my life, and join me in finding the positives going through real life problems,” David says. “Reality is the biggest thing out right now, and I know my story offers people something truly original.”
“I want people to know that I live every day like it’s my last, and for that I’m giving you all I have – every time,” RUSH continues. “The emotion in my music is all me – highs and lows, no fabrication or false representations. A lot of times I wear my heart on my sleeve, even if it doesn’t match my outfit. At the end of the day, if you rock with me, I rock with you! Welcome 2 Rushia!”
