The Oakville Children’s Choir is keeping ever busy with a number of upcoming events.

The choir will be perform at the Ontario Vocal Festival on Tuesday, March 1 with the hopes of getting invited to MusicFest Canada. In addition to that the young choristers will also record a CD, which is expected to be out in December.

At the festival, the OCC will perform songs by Canadian composers.

“OCC choristers have been working diligently in preparation for the festival and the recording,” said artistic director Sarah Morrison, in a press relase.

The OCC’s Chamber Choir will perform Apple tree wassail, written by Stephen Hatfield. The Senior Choir will perform two pieces, one being Olde Irish Blessing by Oakville composer Linda Fletcher and Alice by Sarah Quartel.

“The Ontario Vocal Festival is a wonderful atmosphere where choirs have the opportunity to work with top choral experts from across Canada,” said Morrison.

“MusicFest Canada is also an excellent festival and the competitive aspect makes it a different but no less valuable experience. The OCC choristers learn so much from listening to other choirs perform as well as performing in provincial and national festivals such as OVF and MusicFest Canada,” she added.

In order to perform at MusicFest Canada, a choir must be invited at the Ontario festival. Last year the OCC did not attend the Ontario event but it did in 2009 and received the invite to perform at the national event.

The Ontario festival is spread out over a period from Feb. 28 to March 8 and takes place in a number of communities. The March 1 festivities take place in Barrie.
