The boards of Selectmen, Finance and Education will hold a budget forum at 7 p.m. March 2 at Town Hall. This forum is designed to solicit feedback from the public as the boards shape their 2011-12 budgets. The forum will be an opportunity for everyone to ask questions and voice opinions. Troop 109 is hosting a Creative Memories Crop to benefit the Scouts from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. March 12 at the Westchester Congregational Church, 95 Cemetery Road. Includes 12 hours of scrapbooking, lunch, dinner, snacks and beverages throughout the day. The fee for the crop is $25 prepaid and $30 at the door. The Colchester Learning Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports creative and innovative learning opportunities in the community, will award a second round of grants of up to $500 each. The foundation invites Colchester educators and civic group leaders to apply for a grant. Grant proposals should involve a new, unique, or innovative learning opportunity that will benefit the residents of Colchester. Proposals are due Friday. Winners will be announced at the Board of Education meeting in March. Funded projects should be completed by the end of the current school year for educators and within 6 months of award for community groups. A turkey dinner will be served from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Westchester Congregational Church. This will be a traditional turkey dinner with stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetables, beverages and a fruit cobbler, all hand-made by church members. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children.

The 6th annual Gary Hart & Friends Concert, featuring decades of Bacon Academy Alumni, will take place at 2 p.m. March 13 at the Bacon Academy auditorium. This year’s concert will honor Colchester music teacher Lisa Carbonneau on her retirement. Tickets and donations are $5 at the door, and all proceeds go to the Bacon band music program.

The Colchester Land Trust is hosting the 5th annual “Fine Art of Living,” online auction of fine art and fine wine in April, and seeks donations of original art, photography, framed or unframed prints, sculptures, or any other form of visual art, as well as wine donations. The auction will show all of the artwork and wines at www.colchesterlandtrust.org in April, where bidding will take place online. The artwork also will be displayed at Cragin Memorial Library during April. There will be an Artists’ Reception from 6 to 8:30 p.m. April 12 at the library. The Colchester Lions Club is changing its procedure for identifying organizations in need of funds for their activities. The club now requires all organizations to follow this new procedure, even if they have received donations in the past. Organizations need to request an application form from the Lions by writing to: Colchester Lions Club, PO Box 423, Colchester, CT 06415. Organizations should be prepared to demonstrate how the funds would be used to benefit the community. The Colchester Lions have been serving the community since 1949 and give back all profits raised to groups and organizations in need. Donations will be given out in May. The deadline for return of completed applications is March 1.
The Colchester Cooperative Nursery School will hold an enrollment lottery for the 2011-2012 school year at 9:30 a.m. March 26. Teachers and members of the executive board will be available to answer questions. Parents and children are welcome to attend. To attend the school, children must be 3 by Dec. 31 and potty trained. The 3-year-old lottery will begin at 10 a.m., immediately followed by the 4-year-old lottery. A copy of the child’s birth certificate, proof of residency and a $75 registration fee will be required for enrollment.
