Hyundai's Oscars commercials: Free iPads to Equus buyers - National Commercials | Examiner.com

Hyundai has released its line-up of Oscars commercials, and, as previously reported, it's a series of old and new spots highlighting popular models.

This is Hyundai's third year as the exclusive vehicle sponsor of the Oscars. The company is running nine Oscars commercials, from the pre-show through the actual Academy Awards.

Hyundai ran commercials during this year's Supber Bowl, but they were fairly tame and did not generate much in the way of buzz. The spots did not make any of Nielsen's lists of most-watched, most-liked or most-recalled Super Bowl ads.

At least one of those Hyundai Super Bowl ads, which originally had voice-over narration from Jeff Bridges, is being replayed as an Oscars commercial, but without Bridges. He's nominated for an Oscar for "True Grit," and Academy rules don't allow actors to be in commercials that air close to the category for which they are nominated.

Among the best of the Hyundai Oscars commercials:

A spot for the Hyundai Equus that shows a driver flipping through an interactive owner's manual on an iPad – because a 16GB WiFi iPad loaded with the owner's manual app comes standard with the Equus. Another Equus Oscars commercial that claims Hyundai's service center waiting room for Equus owners is as comfy as the owner's home. The reason? Owners get to wait at home while their cars are serviced and returned to them via free valet service.

The rest of the Oscars commercials are fairly standard car ads, several of which you've likely seen before, including the Super Bowl ad. While the Oscars commercials are sedate compared to high-concept ads for other car companies, such as Kia, that ran during the Super Bowl, they're likely to appeal to the viewers who tune in to the Oscars.

According to ABC, which is airing the awards show:

The Oscar telecast is desirable to advertisers both for its broad reach, and its upscale audience of highly-educated, high-income viewers. The Academy Awards are also attractive to advertisers because, in today’s DVR environment, they are broadcast LIVE.

You can see all of Hyundai's Oscars commercials at the company's YouTube channel.
