47 seconds into the game on a Jack Connolly goal and was ahead 3-2 early in the third period on defenseman Drew Olson’s first career score. But the Tigers (18-15-2, 12-12-1) rallied with three straight goals and led in final shots 37-28.
Colorado College broke a 3-3 tie as sophomore defenseman Joe Marciano earned his first career goal at 4:11 of the final period and forward David Civitarese followed on the next shift at 4:29, putting the puck past UMD goalie Aaron Crandall. Junior Kenny Reiter then replaced Crandall.
Just 43 seconds later, UMD freshman J.T. Brown cut the margin to 5-4 on a power play. A potential tying goal with
14 seconds left by Mike Connolly was disallowed because of a hand pass.
Junior winger Mike Connolly had a goal and two assists to reach 40 points in each of his first three seasons, only the second UMD player to do so in the program’s Division I era. Dan Lempe accomplished the feat from 1976-79. Mike Connolly has 22 goals and
19 assists for 41 points.
Two power-play goals by Nick Dineen led the Tigers in the first two periods.
UMD entered the series with an 8-2-1 mark the past 11 games versus Colorado College.
The Bulldogs, 10-4-3 on the road, are 2-3-2 the past seven games overall and in fourth place in the WCHA.
