Phillies scouting $30 million Cuban outfielder - Philadelphia Philadelphia Phillies | Examiner.com

Like just about every other team in the major leagues, the Philadelphia Phillies are scouting Cuban outfielder Yoennis Cespedes.

Cespedes, 26, will likely be signed for a minimum of $30 million. According to CSNPhilly.com, Cespedes is "built like Bo Jackson."

General manager Ruben Amaro Jr says that the Phillies have seen him a number of times and they're seeing him again. He also says he has no idea where the market is going to go and the Phillies "see all the players they need to see."

Cespedes is reportedly a five-tool outfielder and has been called the best all-around player to come out of Cuba in a generation by Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus.

Last season, for example, Cespedes hit 33 home runs and drove in 99 runs in a 90-game season. He posted a slash line of .333/.424/.667 and added 11 stolen bases in 14 attempts.

The Phillies have also reportedly been contacted by the Detroit Tigers about a potential trade for two-time All-Star center fielder Shane Victorino. It remains unlikely that the Phillies would trade Victorino but Amaro is a general manager who is not at all afraid of making a major signing or trade (see: Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt, Hunter Pence, Jonathan Papelbon, and Cliff Lee, twice).

If they did trade Victorino to Detroit, and it remains to be seen what they would trade him for, it is definitely at least a possibility that the Phillies would sign Cespedes.
