Voters choose Miley Cyrus as worst role model for girls

Teenage girls have chosen Miley Cyrus as their own worst role model in a recent survey.

It was the second time in two years that the scandalous 18 year-old has taken the title in the AOL poll. She managed to beat fierce competition from Demi Lovato and Lindsay Lohan, both of whom had been admitted to rehab clinics in 2010.

The news comes several weeks after Ms Cyrus was caught on video smoking a drug called salvia through a bong. Despite not being illegal in the US, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency lists the substance as a ‘drug of concern’.

Girls aged nine to 15 were able to cast their vote on AOL’s Just So You Know website. Among nearly 100,000 votes, Miley was chosen as the worst role model for young women by 58% of respondents.

Gossip Girl star Chase Crawford, Kanye West and Teen Mom Amber Portwood were also noted for less-than role model behaviour. Crawford had been arrested last year for cannabis possession.

Miley Cyrus had come to fame via Disney’s Hannah Montana show, which has made her audience much younger than many other stars. Many hold her to a higher standard due to this fact, however many say she has worked hard to shed her wholesome background and adopt a rebellious adult persona.
