NBA Betting - Week Preview

The countdown is on to Super Sunday, and what better way to kill time before the big game than basketball betting ? This week’s schedule is loaded with must-see matchups. Here are the best basketball bets on the board for each day:

After a thrilling win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday, the Miami Heat return to South Beach to host the NBA’s worst team - which so happens to be LeBron James’ former club. The Cleveland Cavaliers have lost 20 games in a row, and they are 0-2 straight-up versus Miami this year.

The Cavs did, however, manage to cover as 16.5-point underdogs the last time they played the Heat, falling 101-95 at American Airlines Arena on December 15. Miami’s win over OKC was just the third time in the past 10 games they have covered the spread. However, the return of Chris Bosh from an ankle injury will give the Heat more versatility on offense going forward.

Also highlighting Monday’s schedule are the Indiana Pacers, who host the Toronto Raptors just 24 hours after head coach Jim O’Brien was fired. Pacers backers are hoping a coaching change will spark Indiana the way it did for the Charlotte Bobcats. The Pacers have won three of their last four meetings with the Raptors, going 3-1 against the NBA pointspreads in that span.

Fresh off a Sunday showdown with the Boston Celtics, the Los Angeles Lakers host the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night. Houston is in the middle of a four-game road trip, losing the opening two games to the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs, splitting wins against the spread.

The Rockets are just 9-17 SU on the road but own a respectable 13-12-1 ATS record in opposing gyms. Houston battled the Spurs for three quarters Saturday before buckling in the final frame. It allowed San Antonio to score 32 points, while countering with only 24 in the fourth quarter, to lose 108-95 as an 8-point road pup.

Tuesday’s slate also includes the final game of the Celtics’ four-game Western road run against the Sacramento Kings. Sacramento is showing signs of life after winning three of its last four outings, covering in each of those victories. These teams met in Boston on January 12, with the Kings losing 119-95 as 13-point road underdogs.

Two of the emerging teams in the West collide Wednesday when the New Orleans Hornets head to Oklahoma City to take on the Thunder. Oklahoma City is kicking itself after a dud of a fourth quarter against the Heat on Sunday. The Thunder hung tough with Miami all game, but laid an egg with just 18 total points to close out the contest, losing 108-103 as 1-point home faves.

Defensive rebounding was a major issue down the stretch for OKC. It was outworked on the glass in the closing minutes, giving Miami second looks at the basket. Small forward Kevin Durant was tremendous to start the game but shot just 2 for 10 from the field in the second half and missed a game-tying baseline jumper in the dwindling seconds of the fourth quarter. New Orleans knocked off the Thunder 91-89 as a 3.5-point home favorite last Monday.

Also headlining the midweek action are the Chicago Bulls, who open a four-game road trip in Los Angeles versus the Clippers. Derrick Rose, who is battling painful stomach ulcers, has the Bulls on a five-game winning streak, going 4-1 ATS in that stretch. Rose scored 34 points in a 100-99 loss to L.A. as 9-point home faves back on December 18.

Thursday is reserved for marquee showdowns, like the battle of Florida between the Heat and Magic. These Eastern Conference rivals have split their two meetings this season, with the Magic taking the most recent round. They defeated the Heat 104-95 as 4-point road underdogs in South Beach back on November 24.

This Orlando squad has undergone a facelift since it last played Miami. The additions of Jason Richardson, Gilbert Arenas, and Hedo Turkoglu have the Magic averaging more than 106 points per game in January – third-most in the NBA.

Out West, there is a potential conference finals preview between the league-leading Spurs and the defending-champion Lakers. San Antonio opens a grueling nine-game road swing in Portland on Tuesday before heading to Los Angeles. The veteran Spurs bring a 15-5 SU road record into this week, going 13-6-1 ATS in the role of visitor this year. They defeated L.A. by a score of 97-82 as 3.5-point home chalk on December 28.
