KICK FOR NICK -- The Bob Emig Foundation and Father McGivney Catholic High will parter with area schools and organizations during February to college soccer balls for worldwide youth as part of the Kick for Nick program. Balls will be shipped to members of the armed forces in various countries, including Iraq and Afghanistan, for distribution. The foundation effort includes a Foundation Night benefit 4-7 p.m. Feb. 4 at Maggie O'Brien's in St. Louis, followed by a St. Louis Blues hockey game. The campaign helps fulfill the dreams of Nicholas Madaras, a Private First Class killed in action at age 19 in 2006 during his second tour of suty in Iraq. People are asked to bring new or gently used soccer balls to area collection sites and write "PFC Nick Madaras" several times on each ball. Deflating the balls saves time in shipping preparation.
