WWE hoping return of The Rock brings big ratings to Raw tonight. - Orlando Pro Wrestling | Examiner.com

Rock N’ Sock Returns tonight.  WWE will broadcast a three-hour edition of Raw tonight from Boston, Massachusetts, the last edition of the show before Sunday’s Survivor Series Pay-per-view.  The Rock will make his first live appearance on the show since May, after teasing fans with videotaped segments revealing that he would team with John Cena at the PPV against R-Truth and The Miz.  With Monday Night Football presenting what should be a fairly one-sided Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings game (at least, WWE is hoping it will be, resulting in channel surfing), the company is in a good position to make the most of “The Great One” returning and push the Survivor Series hard.  Some have questioned having the Rock wrestle at Survivor Series, feeling they should save his first match in years for Wrestlemania, but regardless, WWE is moving forward with the plan for Rock to make his in-ring return Sunday at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

While Rock’s appearance is being heavily hyped, his former WWE Tag Team Championship partner Mick Foley is also set to return to WWE Television tonight.  While the exact plans for Foley are unknown, it would only seem natural for him to share the screen with The Rock and reunite "The Rock N' Sock Connection" at some point.  The two are responsible for the most watched television segment in the history of professional wrestling, when Foley presented a comical “This Is Your Life” segment that scored a monster 8.4 rating back on September 27, 1999.  Foley recently made his return at several WWE live events after completing a run with TNA.

The Survivor Series lineup should also be finalized tonight (and at tomorrow’s Smackdown tapings) although WWE is obviously relying heavily on Rock and Cena teaming for the first (and, if you believe advertising, only) time ever against Miz & R-Truth.  Currently set for the show is WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio vs. CM Punk, World Champion Mark Henry vs. Big Show and a traditional Survivor Series match with Randy Orton, Sheamus, Kofi Kingston, Sin Cara and Mason Ryan vs. Wade Barrett, Christian, Jack Swagger, Cody Rhodes and Hunico.

Haven’t we been here before?  Schedule for Raw tonight is announcer Jim Ross taking on Michael Cole in “The Michael Cole Challenge” where if Ross defeats Cole, he will leave Raw as an announcer forever.  Why WWE insists on pushing Cole’s heel character at the expense of actual wrestlers and treating Ross’ announcing career as a yo-yo is beyond me, but they’ve been doing it for months (actually, more like years) and I somehow don’t see it stopping.  You would think at some point Vince McMahon and company would realize that fans want announcers to call the action, not be part of it.

TNA Impact taping tonight and tomorrow.  TNA Impact Wrestling tapes their SpikeTV show tonight and tomorrow at Universal Studios in Orlando.  Admission is free (although Universal theme park guests get admitted first), and doors open at 6:30pm with the taping starting at 7pm.  These shows will witness the fallout from last night’s Turning Point PPV, which saw Bobby Roode retain the World Title against AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy defeat Jeff Jarrett multiple times.
