The lockout drags on and we won’t have any NBA basketball for the forseeable future.
But at least we’ll be able to hear a familiar voice — for at least one night.
Jay Howard, the “Voice of the Spurs” from 1989 through 2001, will be back working again Friday night as he fills in on the broadcast of the Roadrunners’ basketball game at UTEP. Veteran “Voice of UTSA” Andy Everett is away for the Roadrunners’ football game Saturday at McNeese State and won’t be able to do both broadcasts.
Howard was an outstanding play-by-play announcer back in the day. He’s battled back from surgery last summer after he was diagnosed with cancer in both kidneys.
He’s now a financial advisor at Planto Roe Financial Services. It will be good to hear him back broadcasting basketball again.
Actually, it will be good just to be hearing basketball again. The game broadcast will begin at 7:45 p.m. Friday on The Patriot, FM 92.5.
