Paramount Pictures Stays in the Jason Reitman Business with 'Labor Day' - iamROGUE.com

Reitman's first two features, Thank You for Smoking and Juno, wre distributed by Fox Searchlight, but his last, Up In the Air, was handled by Paramount, which is also behind Young Adult.  Reitman also produced Jeff, Who Lives at Home, which is directed by the Duplass Brothers, stars Jason Segel, and is distributed by Paramount.

Here's the press release from Paramount regarding Labor Day:

HOLLYWOOD, CA (September 9, 2011) - Paramount Pictures and Indian Paintbrush jointly announced today they will co-produce, and Paramount will distribute, Academy Award(r)-nominated writer / director Jason Reitman's LABOR DAY starring Academy Award(r)-winner Kate Winslet and Academy Award(r) nominee Josh Brolin. Indian Paintbrush will co-finance the project, with the company's Steven Rales and Mark Roybal executive producing.

The movie will be produced by Academy Award(r)-nominated producers Lianne Halfon and Russell Smith of Mr. Mudd Productions, along with Reitman and Helen Estabrook of Right of Way Films.

Adapted by Reitman and based on the novel by Joyce Maynard, LABOR DAY tells the story of an escaped convict (Brolin) who seeks shelter with a single mom (Winslet) and her young son over a long Labor Day weekend.

The film marks the fourth collaboration for Jason Reitman and Paramount. His latest film "Young Adult," starring Charlize Theron, will hit theaters on December 9, 2011. The studio previously released his Academy-Award(r) nominated "Up in the Air" in 2010. Earning over $160 million world-wide, the movie earned six Academy-Award(r) nominations, and five Golden Globe nominations, with Reitman taking home the Golden Globe for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Excepting his work with Diablo Cody, Reitman's style is to write or co-write an adaptation of an existing novel in his unique, tonally delicate style, as he did with Thank You for Smoking and Up In the Air.  Reitman seems on a nigh-inevitable course for awards season glory, and proven actors and actresses keep queuing up to work with him, all of which is good, as he makes solid pictures.

Young Adult kicks off with a limited release on December 9th before expanding to a wide release on December 16th.  Labor Day, meanwhile, does not yet have a release date.
