Girls' volleyball: Tired legs don't slow Trinity in sweep of Lower Dauphin

New Trinity coach John Barrick worked his girls' volleyball team hard through the first few weeks of the season. Hard enough to have one player say she didn't want to get out of bed the next morning.

Barrick questioned if he pushed them too hard, but after a quick sweep of Lower Dauphin Thursday night at Trinity High School, it seemed like the Shamrocks' legs were still fresh.

"I'm very pleased," Barrick said. "I think we overworked them a little bit at the beginning of the season, but I'm pleased at where we're at so far, and we should just keep getting better."

That's a scary thought for the rest of the Mid-Penn Colonial, which has yet to take a set from Trinity in four matches.

LD gave its best, led by Annie Goerl's nine kills and Gabry Tyson's 14 assists, but service errors hurt the Falcons when they were able to stop Trinity's runs.

"We didn't serve well at crucial times," Lower Dauphin coach Dave Machamer said. "We'd get the ball back, and serve it into the net. Then we give up two or three points, get the ball back and serve it into the net again. We had to stop those runs."

In contrast, Trinity's serving helped keep those runs going, scoring 15 aces against only six service errors.

Hannah Fry's 17 kills paced the Shamrocks, while Morgan Whiteman added nine of her own. Trinity also got 26 assists from Melissa Leandri, who missed some time in the past week with a bug that's been going around the school and the team.
