Attorney: Progress being made on Ettelbrick estate - Springfield, IL - The State Journal-Register

An attorney charged with recovering losses to the estate of the late Mayor Tim Davin’s cousin, Margaret Ettelbrick, told a judge today that progress is being made.

Kevin McDermott, Sangamon County public administrator, asked Circuit Judge Pete Cavanagh for another 30 days to resolve the matter without going to a hearing. The judge agreed, setting the next court date for Oct. 7.

Davlin, who was the executor for the estate, was found dead of a self-inflicted gun shot wound on Dec. 14 – the day he was due in court to provide a final accounting for the Ettelbrick’s estate.

It was later learned that more than $340,000 was missing from the estate.

In June, McDermott filed claims for more than $340,000 against Davlin’s estate.

According to the claims, Davlin sold Ettelbrick’s house for $46,449 less than it was worth, spent $85,512 for his personal benefit and used $203,750 to buy stock in the Midwest Service Corporation, the parent company of the Mid-West Truckers Association.

Catholic Charities of Springfield is owed whatever is left in Ettelbrick’s estate after all other beneficiaries are paid.
