Williams among Bears' free agent signings

The Chicago Bears signed several free agents on Friday, among them wide receiver Roy Williams.

Williams, who inked a one-year deal, was waived by the Cowboys earlier this week following two unsuccessful seasons in Dallas. The 2006 Pro Bowl selection has totaled 42 touchdowns during his career, but has not caught more than 38 passes in any of last four seasons.

The signing was one of many by the Bears, who also locked down veteran defensive tackle Anthony Adams for two more years and added another defensive lineman in former first-round draft pick Vernon Gholston.

Adams spent the last four years in Chicago and recorded 36 tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles last year. Gholston, the sixth overall selection in the 2008 draft, inked a one-year contract after three forgettable years in New York.

Chicago also agreed to terms with wide receiver Sam Hurd, punter Adam Podlesh, linebacker Nick Roach, tight end Matt Spaeth, fullback Will Ta'ufo'ou, quarterback Caleb Hanie, running back Kahlil Bell and center Edwin Williams.

Hanie has seen action in only five regular season games over his first two seasons, but played in last year's NFC Championship Game after Jay Cutler went down with an injury and backup QB Todd Collins was ineffective. He threw two interceptions in relief, one that was returned for a touchdown in the 21-14 loss.
