Donovan McNabb

(notes) is going to join the Minnesota Vikings after all. The negotiations are more or less completed, although there are a few final details that still need to be worked out. Now the question is, will Donovan McNabb be a good fit for the Vikings? Until training camp begins, we can only speculate. Still, my gut feeling is that Donovan McNabb has the ability to help pull the Vikings football team out of their two-year rut.

The main reason why Donovan McNabb makes a great addition to the Vikings is simple: he brings a ton of talent to the field. As an athlete at Syracuse, McNabb already showed a lot of promise. And while playing with the Eagles, McNabb helped lead his team to four NFC Championships and an appearance at the Super Bowl.

McNabb's insight will make him a valuable asset to the Vikings football team. With a 5-1 record against the Vikes, the quarterback clearly knows what it takes to defeat his new team. A thorough understanding of the Vikings' weaknesses can lead to the type of improvements necessary for a winning season.

Not only is Donovan McNabb an exceptional quarterback, he has a history of working with current coach Leslie Frazier. After coaching the Eagles from 1999 until 2002 , Leslie Frazier has a good working relationship with McNabb as well as a thorough understanding of McNabb's strengths and weaknesses on the field.

I rarely agree with anything Brad Childress has to say, but I do think he is right to be excited about the Vikings' acquisition of McNabb. Childress views McNabb as an "A-character guy… He's got a great background and he's going to be a great team guy. He's a good person."

Another interesting virtue of McNabb highlighted by Brad Childress is, surprisingly, his comedic talent…"He's easy to smile, big laugh, kind of a cut-up … probably could have done five minutes on Johnny Carson . I mean he can be genuinely funny."

To be honest, I don't really care if Donovan McNabb is a good comedian. I'm just glad he's a member of the Vikings football team for 2011.

Born and raised in Minnesota, Stephanie Gustafson has remained faithful to the Minnesota Vikings through their many ups and downs.
