Gun Owners of America (gunowners.org) has some interesting ratings. Nevada’s Demoleft Senator Harry Reid, just re-elected (big mistake, Nevada) rates F-, even worse than F, while Nevada’s other Senator, Republican John Ensign gets an A+.
In Montana, both Senators are liberal Democrats. Both failed. Jon Testor got an F rating while Max Baucus scored a D-. Imagine being anti-gun rights in Montana and holding high public office at that.
Next-door Wyoming has a far better group of politicians. Both Senators and one Congresswoman are conservative Republicans and all three do an outstanding job. Senators Barasso and Enzi both get A- and Congressman (as she refers to herself, no political correctness there) Cynthia Lummis scores an A. Anywhere you live in Wyoming you have fine representation. Wyoming has only one House member and has only had one since statehood.
Arlen Specter, D then R then D again, is on his way out of Congress - good! Snarlin’ Arlen got hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from the National Rifle Association for supposedly supporting gun rights, yet had a rating of F from gunowners.org. If you’re paying dues to the NRA you’re helping Arlen’s political career, which appears to be over.
Back home in Georgia, the NRA appears to be a little nutso, backing Georgia Democrat Congressmen Jim Marshall, Sanford Bishop and John Barrow for reelection. Even according to the leftwing news rag Washington P---, Jim Marshall voted for Nancy Pelosi’s agenda 88.5 percent of the time. The other two are probably worse, even more liberal than Jim - I’d bet on it.
Maybe NRA stands for Neocon Rifle Association.
Texas Fred’s motto: “Nowhere is it written that we must accept the status quo.” I could add to that we need not accept the statist quo either. I check his site daily. That’s TexasFred.net. Another good one: ElvisNixon.com. That name caught my eye a while back.
“Your chances of meeting an IRS agent are far greater than your chances of meeting anyone you voted for.”
The START Treaty is another farce, a worthless agreement with the Russian mass murderers. Someone should ask the members of Congressman Larry McDonald’s family if they think we should trust the Russians. Georgia’s Senator Johnny Isakson seems to be taking the Republican establishment line, supporting the treaty. Why help liberals?
The Orlando Sentinel, known locally as the “Slantinel,” got it right for once, endorsing Republican Charlie Crist for the U.S. Senate. So did the Tampa Tribune and Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel. The very liberal St. Petersburg Times backed slippery Governor Charlie Crist, citing his “independence.” Remember back a year ago when the Republican establishment backed Charlie Crist, and called for Marco Rubio to quit the race? They claimed at the time that Marco couldn’t win and assured us that Charlie was a good conservative. You can’t believe the Republican establishment, either.
“Compromise, hell! If freedom is right and tyranny is wrong, why should those who believe in freedom treat it as if it were a roll of bologna to be bartered a slice at a time?”
In Alachua County, Florida the local library shows movies and gives free popcorn to homeless people, which does little but make those providing the treats feel better themselves. As commentator Michael Medved says, “It doesn’t help the homeless to facilitate continued homelessness.”
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is looking out for you and now is watching your salt intake from soup.
Advertisements attacking salt intake from eating soup will appear on subways for the next two months, warning of excessive salt intake leading to heart attacks. The cost of the ad campaign is $370,000 with $130,000 coming from NYC taxpayers and the rest paid by the federal government (taxes from the rest of us). Remember, as Paul Harvey often pointed out, the government has no money except what it takes from you - true! I miss Paul Harvey.
From the book The Politician by former John Edwards’ aide Andrew Young - remember Hurricane Floyd hitting the North Carolina coast in mid-August 1999? He says John Edwards wasn’t the only elected official seeking the limelight.
“A few days after the storm, while I was helping to shovel out a church filled with mud and debris, Congresswoman Eva Clayton scurried inside, noticed the Edwards staff t-shirt I wore, looked at the mask I was wearing to protect myself from fungus, and said, ‘Young man, gimme that thing, here come the TV cameras.’ She took it so she could look as though she had been working. As soon as the news crews left, I got it back.”
Bumper sticker of the day: I Don’t Believe the Liberal Media.
