Knicks 115, Wizards 106 - Last night’s first quarter ended with the Knicks up by 7, and New York would extend the lead to 13 early in the second quarter. At first glance it appeared that D’Antoni’s group would sail on to victory. READ MORE
Knicks beat John Wall and Wizards, but Monday's effort won't fly against Miami Heat, LeBron James - The Knicks are no more ready to beat the Miami Heat in two more days than the Jets were ready to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. Not if Monday night was any indication. The Knicks had to sweat out a 115-106 win over a bad Washington team that left the Garden with its "perfect" 0-for-the-road record intact. Now, the Wizards' rookie phenom John Wall has lost 21 straight games away from our nation's capital. READ MORE
New Jersey Nets 103, Cleveland Cavaliers 101: Breathing a Sigh of Relief - Well, that was a close one. If you thought my last recap of a Nets game was condemning of the franchise, that would have only been scratching the surface of what I would have written had the Nets blown this game against the Cavaliers. Fortunately, Avery Johnson and the rest managed to figure out in time that they were playing Cleveland, the league’s worst team by consensus, just before the night ended. READ MORE
Keep Hump Alive - Prior to yesterday’s win against Cleveland, Avery Johnson had some high praise for Kris Humphries, giving an indication as to what his future with the organization may be: “We want Humphries back,” Johnson said. “What the Nets are all about and where we’re going, Humphries is our kind of player. We’ve told him that. We would love to have you as a part of our program as we move forward.” READ MORE
The New York Mets Current Mess - The Mets went into the offseason knowing they would be hamstrung by the ill-advised, over-inflated contracts former GM Omar Minaya gave to Oliver Perez and Luis Castillo. Their main objective was to restock the front office with credible baseball people with similar minds and one common philosophy. They started at the top by bringing in Sandy Alderson who shortly afterwards hired Paul DePodesta and J.P. Ricciardi as his special advisers. READ MORE
Training Camp Opens Applesauce - Collins in PSL, Met players hope to take big steps forward, 1977 anti-Seaver bile. Meet the Mets: Pitchers and catchers aren't reporting for a few more weeks still, but Terry Collins is already in Port St. Lucie hoping to have 50+ of the organization's players there with him as the team opens up training camp. Over/under on the first ITBSOHL story? READ MORE
"Undercover Boss"- What happens when Brian Cashman goes undercover within the Yankees? - Wanting to get an up-close feel of the inner workings of his team, Brian Cashman decided to pose as a player, undercover boss style. For over a month while off-season conditioning was going on, the Yanks general manager became the newest pitcher; Brian Moneyperson. Unbeknownst to the rest of the staff, the newest southpaw was the guy who signs their checks. READ MORE
New York Yankees News: All Is Not Lost In The Pitching Department - Much ink has been spilled about the "failure" of the Yankees this offseason, their failure to keep up with the Joneses of the AL East and their inability to land any of their trade/free agent targets. Coupled with the probable loss of Andy Pettitte, it's not difficult to imagine what the headlines will say if the Yankees are below .500 by the time mid-April rolls around (yes, mid-April; none of us seem to have much more patience than that). A Look to the Offseason, Part 1: Uncertain CBA Situation and the Draft - It is impossible to say for sure in which direction the Jets will go in the offseason. That is because there is impossible to say for sure what they will be able to do. The Collective Bargaining Agreement between the players and the owners expires on March 3. On March 4, unless a new agreement is reached beforehand, the owners will likely lock the players out of team facilities. READ MORE
Following Loss To Steelers Jets Have Several Questions To Answer - For the second year in a row the New York Jets fell short in the AFC Championship as Gang Green lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-19 on Sunday. This loss is as tough as it gets for Gang Green as they battled back from 24-0 deficit and had several opportunities late in the fourth quarter to put themselves in position to win the game. In the end the Jets pathetic performance in the first half of the game was just too much to overcome. As you look forward for the New York Jets their “Super Bowl or Bust” mentality has put them in a precarious situation as they head into the offseason. The organization will have to make several difficult decisions that will dictate the team’s success going forward. READ MORE
Roster, labor uncertainties cloud Jets' desire for return to AFC title game - When Rex Ryan addressed his players the day after their season ended, the coach presented a punchy fact: Of the four teams in last year’s conference championship games, the Jets were the only one to get back. His point was their achievement — albeit one that further framed the regret of Sunday’s 24-19 loss to the Steelers in the AFC title game. READ MORE
Reese: Fixing Eli is Eli's job - No one is going to concoct a magic formula to cure Eli Manning of the turnover plague that overcame him this past season, when he threw a career-high 25 interceptions to severely hurt the cause for the Giants. Changes in that area have to come from Manning himself, according to Giants general manager Jerry Reese. READ MORE
Tuck named second-team All Pro along with three other teammates - The Associated Press released its All-Pro teams Monday, and the Giants were well-represented. Though nobody made first team All-Pro, four were placed on the second team: DE Justin Tuck, G Chris Snee, DE Osi Umenyiora, and S Antrel Rolle. READ MORE
29-19-3: Well, How About That? - Before puck drop I stopped by to say hello to the fine folks at Japer's Rink and said that they should enjoy the win as the Rangers mailed it in. Torts decided to let Del Zotto dress, to start Biron and let Brandon Prust make the call on whether he could play of not. Three very big strikes against the team. READ MORE

Islanders Gameday: Grabner shining; injury pendulum swings - These division foes, separated by 27 points, have faced each other only twice so far, and the meetings were on opposite ends of the one-win-in-21 streak that submarined the Islanders' season. Previously, the concern for the Isles was just surviving with an injury depleted lineup -- and they did, doing the bend-don't-break drill with an OT loss in October and a shootout "win" just before the New Year. The Strange Case of Dylan Reese - Milan Jurcina is hurt again, but it's no longer fair to play Dylan Reese as his replacement. It's no longer fair to his teammates, it's no longer fair to fans, it's no longer fair to anyone accidentally flipping through the channels and somehow landing on MSG+2 (The Deuce Plus!) and not fair for those Bruno haters. Last year Reese was a bit of a feel good story, having a decent showing for someone widely considered to be a career minor league talent. READ MORE

Lemaire: Playoff talk premature - White (lower body) will miss second game Wednesday in Detroit. Jacques Lemaire won’t entertain his team’s postseason chances until they’re five points out of the final berth. Until then it’s one game at a time. “I don’t even think about the playoffs right now," Lemaire said following Monday's optional practice. "I can’t be thinking about that. I don’t know, so many points behind. I’ll be thinking about it if we get five points from eighth place. [Then] I’ll start to think about it. Meanwhile, I’ll try to win games and play as well as we can.” READ MORE
