- The Longwood University women's basketball team is set to travel to College Park, Maryland, to take on the 14th-ranked University of Maryland of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.. The Lancers (4-14) are coached by interim head coach Bill Reinson and are led by senior Krystal Garrison and junior Brittanni Billups who each average 10.7 points. Maryland (17-3) is coached by Brenda Frese and is led by Alyssa Thomas with 14.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. The Terrapins have won their last four games, including a 75-44 home victory over ACC-member Wake Forest on Friday. The Lancers are coming off a 63-53 setback to Davidson College on Friday.

Longwood is coming off a 63-53 setback to visiting Davidson College of the Southern Conference on Friday night in Willett Hall. Longwood fell behind by 12 in the first half after going scoreless for almost 10 minutes before going on an 18-2 run over the next 5:19 to regain the lead. The Lancers led 28-26 at halftime but the Wildcats went on a 9-0 run early in the second half to lead 35-30 with 17:26 remaining. LU tied the game at 37-37, but Davidson's Ashley Lax hit three-straight three-pointers to give the Wildcats the lead for good. Morgan Smith paced Longwood with a season-high 14 points, while all 11 players that saw action scored for the Lancers.
Longwood (4-14) is coached by interim head coach Bill Reinson and led by senior Krystal Garrison (10.7p, 47.4% FG, 40.6% 3FG), junior Brittanni Billups (10.7p, 6.4r) and sophomore Chelsea Coward (9.7p, 3.2r). Junior transfer Mina Jovanovic (7.1p, 5.2r, 2.6a) is also a key contributor. Longwood is shooting 37.8% from the floor, including 30.9% from behind the arc, and 72.6% from the foul line. The Lancers are averaging 63.6 points while allowing 69.7 points.
Maryland (17-3) is coached by Brenda Frese and is led by Alyssa Thomas (14.1p, 7.9r), Lynetta Kizer (12.7p, 7.2r) and Diandra Tchatchouang (10.3p, 5.7r). The Terrapins are 9-1 at home this season, including a perfect 7-0 in non-conference home action. Maryland has won its past four contests, including a 75-44 home win over conference opponent Wake Forest on Friday night. The Terrapins are shooting 44.1% from the floor, including 26.6% from behind the arc, and 63.7% from the foul line while averaging 73.4 points and allowing 56.7 points.
Longwood and Maryland have met one time in the sport of women's basketball, with the Terrapins leading the series 1-0. Maryland defeated the Lancers 85-40 last season in Willett Hall.
Longwood returns home on Wednesday, February 2, when they host CSU Bakersfield at 7 p.m. in Willett Hall.
Longwood has three games this season against teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Lancers are 0-1 against the ACC this year and went 0-3 against the ACC last season and has rematches scheduled with Virginia, Virginia Tech and Maryland. Longwood is a combined 7-15 against those three schools and 8-20 against current ACC members all-time.
