St. Raymond School’s Early Childhood Program Welcomes
January 26, 2011—Grammy-nominated children’s singer/songwriter Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players will perform a special one-hour concert at St. Raymond School’s Gym on Saturday, March 12 at 11 a.m. The gym, also known as the Parish Life Center, is located at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and I-Oka in Mount Prospect. The concert is part of a St. Raymond Early Childhood Program welcome event for families in the community and is open to the general public. All tickets are $10; infants under the age of one year are free. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. For further concert information and to purchase tickets, contact: JRinfo11@gmail.com.
Roberts will have with him a trio of musicians and likely will perform songs from his latest critically-acclaimed CD Jungle Gym, which earned him the 2011 Grammy nomination and was voted one of the top ten “must buys” in Parents Magazine. He is a winner of five Parents’ Choice Gold Awards and five National Parenting Publications (NAPPA) Gold Awards. USA Today calls Roberts “The Paul McCartney of kid’s music.” The Chicago Tribune says, “As a kids’ performer, Roberts is in a league of his own.” Time Out NY Kids calls Roberts’ work the “Best Children’s Music of the Past 30 Years.” And Time Magazine names him “A brilliant crafter of power pop songs.”
In a January 10 Entertainment Weekly interview, Roberts said he writes songs “not just about the joy of being a kid, but everything else that comes along with being a human being.” The kid’s music star continued, “A lot of the childhood experience is easily adapted to things that adults go through. People try to separate kids and adults more than they should because there’s a lot of common ground. I only have a vague recollection of going to my first day of school but I can tell you exactly what it feels like to be nervous about starting something for the first time.”
“We are very pleased to present such a major talent as Justin Roberts and his band to families from both St. Raymond and the general community,” said Colleen Cunningham, St. Raymond Director of Early Childhood. “This concert affords area families an opportunity to come find out what a great school St. Raymond really is.”
“We were looking for an event to welcome the people in the community to St. Raymond,” said Kara Coleman, and Margaret Denten, school parents & event promoters. “This is a treat for the kids in our parish and beyond; all are welcome. With the support and knowledge from our school and parish staff in combination with willing parent volunteers, events such as these are a joy to produce.”
Named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2009, Saint Raymond School, as a parish elementary school (Pre-K though 8), is an integral part of the Faith Community of Saint Raymond de Penafort in Mount Prospect, Illinois.
